OOOOOOW!

Sorry for making a new thread, but I need people to share my pain!

There is a new DEFYING GRAVITY vid on the Labbadia Sisters' website. Oh God my ears! If anything it has become MORE painful and more strained. Sounded as though they'd each had 3 cuban cigars & a bottle of brandy before singing!

Girls, please, if you're reading this GIVE YOUR VOICES A BREAK!!! Either that or welcome the nodules.

And, yes, the UK has all of this to look forward to. It would appear to be impossible to tell a 15 year-old girl that she is NOT trained or developed enough to do that sort of song. (Can you imagine it! A 15 year-old saying "I HAVE been trained"!) Methinks recitals & talent contests will be a no-go zone for me once it hits the West End (whenever that will be)

Wow, I listened to that just now. I really do not appreciate the girl who is singing for elphie's voice. But I kind of like the younger sister's voice. You know not until listening to that sound clip do I realze just how much of a friend head voice can be to people.

There's two DEFYING GRAVITY videos - one from last year, one from this year. Watch them both - I'd swear the older one's voice is showing serious signs of overuse!

re: OOOOOOW!

I think they should have picked a song that allowed the younger sister to have an equal part in.

I think they're like a younger version of the Sweeney Sisters.

re: OOOOOOW!

"my strongest suit" was killed. no, murdered.

re: OOOOOOW!

That ending is very painful. Ouch. They are going to ruin their voices if they keep singing like that.

re: OOOOOOW!

It hurts me to listen to them, but in all honesty, I do think there is some potential there. A really good vocal coach needs to get their hands on these girls, pronto, and nip that screeching in the bud.

It's interesting...years ago they all wanted to sound like Streisand...now we're gonna have a new generation of Idina wannabes coming out of the woodwork.

re: OOOOOOW!

How interesting I didn't realize there were 2 defying gravity videos..hmmm the older one definitely is showing signs of vocal wear and tear (at 15??ouch!) but it is amazing how much better the first one was sans the recording to imitate. Although I would also say it just goes to show all these young performers out there who all they work on is their voice, that so much more is required of you on stage.
You need stage presence and flailing your arms around in the air in the exact same osition over and over and looking angry does not make up for magnetism on stage. IMHO: stage magnetism and presence is the difference between the people with good voices who get cast and the people with incredible voices who do not get cast.

re: OOOOOOW!

The vowel placement on the word "down" at the end was awful. Completely terrible. These girls should get a better vocal coach and some acting lessons. I agree with whomever said they lack stage presence. It is not there. I ended up watching the curtain. These girls should stop belting their brains out and try something softer and something with more of an emphasis on the acting example: "Send In The Clowns"

re: OOOOOOW!

Did I just waste an actual ten mins of my life watching those videos? I ask again...why are we supposed to care about these people? They do have potential...but dear god get them some coaching before the kill themselves trying to belt high notes...
say the word...and i just might listen...

i think one of the girls did use to come on this board cause i remember her posting the link and telling people to listen to her sing defying gravity

re: OOOOOOW!

Okay, okay, so who am I to judge, since I cannot sing for beans? But I'll add my two cents anyway. The younger girl sounded good. The older one was okay. There was just something about her voice that didn't click with me. Why did she get most of the singing in the song? They should have picked a song that let them shine off both of their talents.

Overall? I would give it a 6 out of 10. I don't want to insult anyone, because you can tell that they love what they are doing, enough for them to make a website with all their recordings. I give an A+ for efforts.

re: OOOOOOW!

Yes, the one used to post on this board. And she did indeed post a link. Not only can't she sing a song that's within her range, she doesn't have good taste in clothing. haha...okay, I admit that was uncalled for. But oh well.
EDIT:
And to think, the people from those girls' hometown are probably praising them to no end. Who else thinks that they would believe themselves to be the best singers and will be the next hot thing on Broadway? haha...keep singing in your recitals, girls.

I'm feeling especially catty this evening.

Is there some way that Mac users can watch WMVs? Just wondering, I'd love to see what you're all talking about. Thanks. :)

re: OOOOOOW!

If the older sister continues to sing like that she will blow her voice out somtime within the next few years. The vowels were bad. I sing in my school choir and my teacher tells us how to sing vowles so the words sound good. I was also wondering why they didn't choose a song that could show off both of their talants. I would choose "I Still Belive" from Miss Saigon but thats just me.

DID ANYONE LISTEN TO FOR GOOD? The younger sister sounds better than the one singing Elphaba...Oy.
