LOL this is hilarious. Goodness she sounds atrocious. I take it there are many many teenage girls attempting to sing songs from Wicked in their high school talent shows. Thank god i don't have to hear them.
The reason I felt I had to post this, btw, is because when they first posted on here to get everyone to watch the vid there were a LOT of people who told them, nicely, that they needed to stop the shouting and do softer songs until their voices are trained and developed enough to sing music that demanding (so, for about another 5-10 years, then). I was actually amazed, considering their mature responses at the time, to find that they've ignored all the warnings about the damage they'll do to their voices and are continuing to treat them so recklessly.
Just goes to show teenagers will always take blind adoration over considered and informed advice.
Having said that, their old singing teacher would appear to have been a family friend - probably not best placed to give an objective opinion. They are apparently now training with Liz Caplan, who I gather has worked with many MT performers. Hopefully she'll sort them out.
I heard some sharp notes in For Good - I think those low notes are currently slightly out of their ranges - and the final harmony was not good, but yeah it's definitely better. The younger one probably sounds better because she isn't having her voice hammered into nothingness.
Billygoat, I think if Melissa keeps on like that she'll lose her voice completely within 5 years or less. I wouldn't be surprised if she has no voice at all before she's 20.
PJ, check out their guestbook. You'd be right.
Merry, I'm afraid I don't know how MAC users can view WMVs. I think it plays on my pc in RealPlayer. Do you have that?
If anything do POPULAR!!! lol so you actually hear the younger sister and not the older one.
Ok i posted that above statement while i was in the middle of the song,
Now let me just be honest, i swear my speakers almost blew out on the last note. Wow im 12 and I really dont think she should be doing a song like that. She cant really belt so she kinda tried to get it out. The younger sister was so much better. I think maybe the case was "Listen Jessica! I'm Older and Im gonna be Elphie!"
It reminded me of a recent high school production of Ragtime I just saw. Mother belted through the whole show, not realizing the vocal analysis that she truly isn't supposed to start belting until her final number as a parallel to the changes made in her life. Young people should not do demanding things, acting or vocally, unless it fits in their range. These roles were so far away from them. And who directed these girls? What horrible stage direction.
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive.
"Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot."
"No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one."
Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.
I think that if they choose songs that are in their range they would be really good. I went back and saw the earlier Defying Gravity video and it sounds like the older sister is already souding like she's losing her voice. Did anyone else notice that?
The towel waving reminded me of a Per?nist rally. I kept chanting "Evita!" whenever they'd pan to the crowds. - SM2
The younger sister has a really nice, pleasant sound to her voice. The older one? Ow. Sounds like she had, at one point, potential to be a great singer, but is just killing her voice to no end.
I think this is a case of what we were discussing a while back - young women's vocal talent being assessed by how loud & high they can belt - it wouldn't surprise me if friends & family consider her to be the "star" because she can shout so loud, whilst her younger sister actually is more versatile, more controlled, and has better vocal tone.
yea. At the part where the younger sister sings "I hope your happy" (the end) sounds really good but Badchoice of songs for the sister. Maybe something less intense like For Good or something.
The acting choices in the song were horrible. I know they're young girls, but c'mon. When the one sister sings, "I hope you're happy...now that you're choosing this...," the other sister says, "You too" and then gives that little laugh. It's like two girls discussing whether or not to go to cheerleading camp.

I came across this a while ago...they are awful. Sorry girls! they just need to get their act together and sing stuff for their age. They are sooo young! Well it all has been said already on this thread so no need to repeat. Oh what the heck! Painful Painful! You can see the pain in the older girls face when she sings. All they do is imitate. Screetching doesnt get you to broadway girls! I think the older one thinks she is like the next Idina...no wait...I KNOW the older one thinks she is the next Idina
Wow. Let me say a few things about these girls. Their voices are not awful, they just are not, well, very good. First off, neither of them know how to sing properly (this you can tell by the straining vibrato that comes out whenever the sing anything above an F). I feel that these girls assume that because they can "belt" that they can sing whatever they want. For the most part, very few girls can actually belt (let alone should belt like Kristin Chenoweth and Idian Menzel). They are really straining their voices by doing songs like that. On the "unlimited, my future is, unlimited.." part, she is really flat and you can just see that she has no idea what to do with her mouth when singing, and she is very tense in her jaw. In the end though, it is really rather interesting, cause the Elphaba one is really flat, and the Glinda one is really sharp, so the harmony "just" isn't there.
I think, not positive though, that this was a vocal recital, no? (regarding the first defying gravity) Well on the website the younger sister sings On My Own and wears the same outfit. So I will assume that this song is the older one's number (sorry i dont know names) and the younger one just sang G(a)linda's part to back her sister up.
Either way they should not be singing that.
I want to write music. I want to sit down right now at my piano and write a song that people will listen to and remember and do the same thing every morning...for the rest of my life. - Jonathan Larson. Tick, Tick...BOOM!
I didn't enjoy that at all. I think my ears are bleeding... That poor child is gonna end up with nodes or the like.
I think it is possible for a fifteen year old to be trained. I'm fifteen, been taking voice lessons for eight years from the Professor of Music at Notre Dame.
