First it was Rick Warren, and now it is Louie Giglio. Obama's invited another homophobe to deliver the benediction at his second inauguration, evidently because there just weren't any non-bigoted religious people out there to invite---
Giglio -- Gays Are Going To Hell, And All That---
You wanted Obama & you got him. I guess he is still evolving or maybe he has been reelected so he just doesn't care.
**** happens. For the record, this guy (the pastor) does not belong there.

Well, I didn't particularly want him, but I just hade no choice, Obama was the only sane option available to counter Romney.
Yeah because if we voted for the other guy he'd invite Barney Frank and Tinky Winky to give speeches. You should really wipe your chin, Roxy. You have bullshlt that's been leaking out of your mouth on it.
When I was in college, I'd go to this guy's weekly college-age church meetings at Andy Stanley's church, when I didn't know he had said all that. He seems almost too informal for that type of event.
If he wanted someone to speak to the young, hip crowd, why not Jay Bakker?

And...
...he loves openly gay, Latino inaugural poets.

Richard Blanco. First Latino. First gay.

Well, the people who love balance will certainly be pleased. I'd echo Roscoe's point about are there no anti-gay men of god for Obama to choose, but at this point, I've got to suspect it's deliberate - a little something for everyone!

"Just wait till his second term, when he doesn't have to be reelected. Then we'll see the REAL liberal Obama."

I appreciate Roxy saying for the record that pastor doesn't belong there.
I feel as if I am on a journey with Mr Roxy the way Sean of Sean 'n' Jamie is with his mother Barbara and I want to acknowledge the milestones.
Some day you guys will be an item.
There are pro-gay rights pastors, especially in the Episcopal denomination. It's a minority among pastors, and other pastors attack them for it. Hell, I posted something on Facebook defending marriage equality and was called Satanic.

Of course there are. It just seems the only one Obama knows is Jeremiah Wright.
He's gone.

Thank you for posting that Reg, I was just about to add that.
Even I'm impressed that this was dealt with.
Here's the bigot's statement, and it isn't a pretty one, a total non-apology for being a bigot:
January 10, 2014 [sic]
I am honored to be invited by the President to give the benediction at the upcoming inaugural on January 21. Though the President and I do not agree on every issue, we have fashioned a friendship around common goals and ideals, most notably, ending slavery in all its forms.
Due to a message of mine that has surfaced from 15-20 years ago, it is likely that my participation, and the prayer I would offer, will be dwarfed by those seeking to make their agenda the focal point of the inauguration. Clearly, speaking on this issue has not been in the range of my priorities in the past fifteen years. Instead, my aim has been to call people to ultimate significance as we make much of Jesus Christ.
Neither I, nor our team, feel it best serves the core message and goals we are seeking to accomplish to be in a fight on an issue not of our choosing, thus I respectfully withdraw my acceptance of the President’s invitation. I will continue to pray regularly for the President, and urge the nation to do so. I will most certainly pray for him on Inauguration Day.
Our nation is deeply divided and hurting, and more than ever need God’s grace and mercy in our time of need.
Your first clue that he's just as bigoted as ever (even though he's "focused" on other things recently) is his use of the word "agenda" to describe the objections of the people he's condemned from his pulpit.

I can make no sense of this.

Giglio doesn't repudiate or apologize for his remarks, he didn't use this as an excuse to build bridges with the gay community he once denounced. Nope -- he still clearly holds those same beliefs, and is really mad at having been called out on his hate.
They should go with Andy Stanley. The church doesn't even know where he stands with homosexuality, and has called him out on it this past May.
I don't know his stance, either, but the fact that the church blasted him for not saying it's a sin this past May was like hyenas attacking their own.
