AP reports that the Obama campaign will be spending $5 mil on national campaign ads to run during the Olympics. Last time I checked, that's a lot of money, and it's very unusual to run national ads, rather than targeted.

It's absolutely the right move. Bottom line: he has to reach every single person whether likely voter or not...and in fact it's ahead of every filing deadline and will only help the numerous voter reg drives underway nationwide...Believe me there are many, many targeted very large Direct Voter Contact canvass operations in every single state -- and there will be targeted ads by both camps all the way through the fall but to lay the foundation on a positive note during the Olympics highlights the positives and reminds people why they were moved in mass numbers to respond to him . ...a national ad before the convention...the speech airing on the 45th anniversary of MLK's I Have a Dream, given in a 70K person arena....there is no doubt the man is a rock star.
