WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama is canceling nearly all his campaign events Thursday and Friday to fly to Hawaii to visit his suddenly gravely ill 85-year-old grandmother, his communications director said.

I believe he's making a stop in Indiana tomorrow, then taking two days off to go to Hawaii. However, some news sites are incorrectly stating that he's suspending his campaign. To the best of my knowledge, no one from the Obama camp has said that. Biden, Michelle Obama, and other surrogates will continue to appear at events, ads will still run, and the ground game will continue.

I did miss the Thursday/Friday statement. I remember when my grandmother got "gravely ill", I went immediately. I figured he'd do the same. So, when you all expressed faux outrage at my saying I was glad he didn't say "call me if you need me", I guess he did.

Once you start campaigning, you can't do anything that isn't analyzed to death. So now the Democrats will applaud his heroism and the Republicans will say he's trying for sympathy votes.

Only Republicans are declared heroes for doing the right/human thing. Giuliani was mayor of New York on 9-11-01 and he acted like a leader. HERO.

Obama is not a hero for visiting his ill grandmother. He's a human being.
