I'm a Christian and believe that evolution should be taught in public schools. For a Christian perspective on subjects taught in school, people could send their children to Christian schools (I went to one for three years) or home-school.

The idea that a child of a family who doesn't believe in evolution must not learn of it is ludicrous. The topic will come up at some point in that kid's life. It's like profanity. When they hear it and you don't want them to say it, then tell them not to say it, but the hearing of it is inevitable.

I have no trouble with the bible story of God Creating the world in seven days being taught as part of the "Creation myths from around the world" unit in a sociology class.

Sure?mike you really have me puzzled- What in the world did this whole exchange mean? Did you really go that far out of your way to question Obama's religion? Or his honesty? What were you impugning?

For the record, I will explain the premise of this piece to you: WE are speculating on what Obama could demand that would piss off Republicans- teaching evolution (which MOST people think is perfectly fine) would piss them off. That's the joke here. Got it?

Well I am probably the wrong person to ask- I'd never send my kids to a christian school. If I were governor, I'd expect them to teach evolution in science class and creationism in religion class.

I have no idea what the legality of that is, however. I do know a lot of homeschoolers teach their kids that god created the world in 6 days, dinosaurs and man lived together, and the world is 6,000 years old. Well, know of at least two because my Facebook friends debated what to tell the home schooled kids who suggested a field trip to see fossils.

did a quick scan of the Federal regulations regarding private schools (It's HUGE! It must be a NO GOOD LAW because it is WAY TOO LONG!) and policies vary from state to state but the standard seems to be that a religious school does NOT have to teach any doctrine that conflicts with their religious beliefs.

BUT the kids DO take standardized tests so I guess they get all the questions about dinosaurs wrong?
