President Obama will end the 15-year-old "don't ask, don't tell" policy that has prevented homosexual and bisexual men and women from serving openly within the U.S. military, a spokesman for the president-elect said.
Obama said during the campaign that he opposed the policy, but since his election in November he has made statements that have been interpreted as backpedaling. On Friday, however, Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs, responding on the transition team's Web site to a Michigan resident who asked if the new administration planned to get rid of the policy, said:
"You don't hear politicians give a one-word answer much. But it's 'Yes.' "

What about troop morale? If what my Marine friends tell me is true, troop morale is much higher when they get away with naughty things for which they could get in trouble. It's much more arousing and fun. Without the threat of public discipline, morale will sink and it could threaten national security.
Ask yourselves: what about troop morale?
clearly that's a morass he's willing to ford. amybe.
I find it interesting that this announcement is coming out just as they found documentation that he supported gay marriage.
I will join the Navy if this happens :)

Interestingly (to me, anyway,) my initial response is one that I learned from my time in the military.
I'll believe it when I see it - not til then.
papa, is morass really an appropriate thing to be talking about in this thread?
Edit, nevermind, now that I think about, morass is exactly what this thread needs. and well, the military needs it too.

An unnamed Obama aide told me off the record that Barack thinks you're annoying.
Obama told me he thinks you need your adult undergarment changed.
The unnamed aide said, strictly off the record, that Barack said you collected them. He said that's why the campaign called you "Stinky."

He'll end Don't Ask Don't Tell, but is still currently opposed to same-sex marriage.
He'd rather see us dead than married. What a guy.
