Edited because the stay is lifted on August 18.
Judy Garland Get Me To the Church on Time
God bless everyone who is! I am there with you in spirit!
No one is getting married in the morning. He extended the stay until at least 8/18.
Don't mean to be a party pooper but, apparently, no one is getting married in the morning, as same-sex weddings can not resume until 5pm on August 18; giving those who support Prop 8 plenty of time to appeal to the 9th circuit court.

I hope people don't rush to get married just because they can. It has to be the right time with the right person. Hopefully, we can do better than heteros at having fewer divorces
Madeline Kahn is NOT getting married today.

And to add just a little more salt to the wound, the ban is lifted at 5:00 p.m. on August 18, just so the Fourth Reich can get an extra few hours to work their evil.
Well, that rush of happiness was fun while it lasted. Get used to disappointment, everyone. Our President wouldn't want it any other way.
Honestly, this is about the best that could be expected. If Walker hadn't given the proponents this week, they would have probably found someone to get an emergency stay. Also, he would have given the fringe right a legit legal gripe (it would have been uncommon for him NOT to give this time to appeal to the circuit). Now, the motion has to go to a panel in the 9th circuit. This panel is made up of two Clinton appointees and one Reagan appointee.
Actually, the order is pretty interesting.
It states that the proponents of Prop 8 have no standing to appeal the stay. Walker basically said the state is the only party that really had a right, so by his view, those seeking to extend the stay lacked standing to do so.
The actual defendant, the state of California did not seek to extend the stay, and that was very persuasive to Walker.
If I was a betting person, I would bet that there will be a bunch of evening weddings on the evening of the 18th, and that there may be some overtime hours at various city offices.
Oh, Roscoe, do take those pills the doctor prescribed for you, all right, dear?

Not California but I have a wedding to attend in October in DC.
And I couldn't feel happier!
Walker made precisely the right decision in light of all things. He's done a brilliant job (as have Boies and Olsen) in laying down a foundation for both appeal trials.

Doh, sorry...
Baby steps.
Woo hoo. Glad for the folks in CA, of course. Maybe someday we in NY might get marriage equality too, or some watered down state version of it. Waiting for the miracle, and all that.
No, not even baby steps. This was a GIANT step.
You really are the Off Topic Board's very own Eeyore.
I'm still married...
