I know plenty of school's that have done shows like this, (A school did Falsettos and said F*CK) but who's school would do somthing a raunchy as Avenue Q Even the school edition?

My old HS probably would. Then again, we were the "Fame" School.
My teacher won't take us to see it, claiming it's too "dirty" with "nudity" I told her it's puppet nudity. She's not buying.
Mine would've about a year ago because the health teacher used to run the drama program.
We did Baby, Equus, ACL, Grease and other vastly inappropriate sexually related shows.
Actually Baby isn't inappropriate...just health themed...

MTI is releasing "School editions" of Avenue Q and Rent.
OH and the regional theatre near where I live is definitely going to Rent with their youth program.

Definitely not my HS. The principal is silly, and apparently made them change a bunch of words that I didn't even know were inappropriate.

My high school definitely would not have. But then, they did things like Annie and Rodgers and Hammerstein only. So, you get the picture.
Now, in college, had that stuff been not allowed, I wouldn't have performed my 15 minute scene, our comedy showcase would have been ruined, and Metamorphisis would not have been allowed either.
My highschool probably would have. We did Cabaret my freshman year.

Hell, we were barely allowed to do Into the Woods.
My high school performed It Sucks to Be Me in the scene recital and Kate Monster's "F*CK" was changed to "SH*T," so I'm guessing they wouldn't do the full musical.
I was shocked at Falsettoland when I heard the word F*CK!
Did anybody else see that version from Argentina on youtube? Im pretty sure it was a school, but i'm not sure. They didnt use puppets...
My school would allow it. My director would never go for a show like Q, but if he ever wanted to we could do it.
A bunch of kids are trying to do "Nightmare Before Christmas". Avenue Q seems so possible right now....
I could see it being huge in colleges and universities, but the school edition would have restrictions obviously...
I'm sure my HS would be proud to premier that show. We did the full out version of Miss Saigon, Jekyll and Hyde and other shows of that nature. Then again we were a hardcore performing arts HS who loved to put on shows that were challenging and professional level.
Avenue Q is amazing. Loves.
Definitely not my high school. My high school cut out the sex in Into the Woods. We've also had to cut out words like hell from songs the choir would do.
^Wow! I think Mundeline cut that out to. I don't remember sex.
My high school just did Sweeney Todd, and we saw the show back in 2004 for a class trip.
My old HS would definitely NOT allow it. My sister went to a play they just put 2 weeks ago and told me that the only way the school board allowed the Drama Club to perform it was if they cut out a gay character because it was too offensive to their smalltown midwest minds, so I think AQ or Rent would be a NO before you got the word out
Did anybody else see that version from Argentina on youtube? Im pretty sure it was a school, but i'm not sure. They didnt use puppets...
haha, yeah, but i didn't finish it. i couldn't get over the super heavy accents.
now, has anyone seen the script for the school edition? i'm curious to know what's changed, obviously "loud as the hell you want (when you're making love)" and "my girlfriend who lives in canada" would be cut or severely altered, but would "everyone's a little bit racist" and "if you were gay" and other songs of the like be changed a bit?
...and i doubt either of the schools i've attended would do avenue q, my previous director is more into more thought-provoking and interesting theatre. more of the contemporary pieces, meanwhile, my current director's a wuss and won't touch anything racy, he plays it safe and that's too boring. we just did pride&prejudice for christ's sake...
Our directors would be up for it, but I don't think we ever will. But we have done Cabaret and Metamorphoses and other shows that aren't so "appropriate" so it wouldn't be too great of a stretch.
