The 2004 election is pretty suspect, especially Ohio's count.

Another myth.

Ken Blackwell, ran an election state-wide that was never seriously challenged. Kerry wanted it to be true, but he lost Ohio by 100,000. It wasn't even close.

If you look at the County by County totals, they simply did not turn out the vote in Cleveland that they needed.

It was not voter turnout at issue - it was possible voter suppression.

low turnout? suppression? those don't give guaranteed results...

Ohio's Secretary of State, Republican Kenneth Blackwell, was serving as co-chair of the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign in Ohio (Ohio has touch screen voting)

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x471730

"A state electorate that was ‘within striking distance’ for vote theft. Pre-election and election-day polls indicated a 4% margin in Kerry’s favor

..............

Somehow, that gap was closed, and Bush came out on top in the official count. Until now, there were strong reasons to believe the vote count had been corrupted, but no direct evidence as to how a swing of this magnitude could have been engineered.

This week, in a series of articles by Bob Firakis, Steven Rosenfeld and Harvey Wasserman, a fact has come to light that suggests the answer: On the night of 2-3 November, 2004, the computer designated to count Ohio votes was cut out of the loop. Its web address was diverted to a private company in Chattanooga, TN, named SMARTech.

The web redirection on Election Night of 2004 went a step beyond this: Not only did the official website of the Ohio Department of State look just right, but it had the right address: http://election.sos.state.oh.us . Any citizen or press service looking for real time election results from the state of Ohio would have been directed here. In every sense, this SMARTech site became the official vote tabulation for the state of Ohio.

SMARTech leases computer servers to the Republican National Committee, and the 12-digit ISP address to which the Ohio Department of State was diverted for the 2004 vote count falls between two ranges known to be leased to the RNC. This raises the suspicion that it was an RNC computer, impersonating the state of Ohio computer, that performed the official vote tabulation in 2004. This diversion is so unusual (and brazen!) a ruse, that it is inconceivable that it happened without Blackwell’s explicit consent.

The Ohio web site was showing Kerry ahead before midnight. Then the server went down for 90 minutes, and when it came back up, Bush had a commanding lead."

"on election eve 2006, when a similar DNS switch to Smartech occurred."

"Smartech hosted the recently notorious gbw43.com domain used from the White House in apparent violation of the Presidential Records Act, from which thousands of White House emails vanished"

and two election workers in Cuyahoga County (Cleveland's county) have been convicted of undercutting the checks and balances system that could have triggered a hand recount

See, those kind of statements are the ones that set people off - and I think you do it intentionally.

Olbermann does not have nearly the viewership of O'Reilly, but he does have over 800,000 viewers.

As I was watching it tonight I knew that the only response was going to be about ratings. As if something can't be true without winning its time slot.

THIS is what we're reduced to - getting all high-and-mighty because of a 51% vote! At BEST that should induce someone to lead toward the center. But there's no leading going on here, of any kind. There's a small handful of narcissistic pigs with their fingers in their ears going 'LALALALALA' - and all the while laughing their asses off at the rest of humanity.

At this point, I actually hope they keep it up. EVENTUALLY we'll reach the stage where everyone gathers in the town square with their pitchforks and torches.

>> As I was watching it tonight I knew that the only response was going to be about ratings. As if something can't be true without winning its time slot.

You're surprised? Look at the other board here -- SPRING AWAKENING gets the Tony for Best Musical while a far better show like GREY GARDENS closes and sinks like a stone. Bill OReilly wins his time slot because he's so over the top reactionary, and people love to watch it... just like they love to listen to Michael Savage's nightly meltdowns. It doesnt mean OReilly or Savage are saying anything remotely true, just things that are highly entertaining in a suspect kind of way.

Face it: the truth is boring. No one cares that Ohio have the election to Bush in 2004, just as Florida gave it to him in 2000. The indepth article in ROLLING STONE about how the election was rigged disappeared off the radar *because* it was published in ROLLING STONE. Not because it was well written and well researched and contains facts that every American voter should read. Just because it was published in ROLLING STONE.

All we can do is hope that in 2008 people smarten up a bit, but given our history, that's not real likely.

Oh, and HD? The routine is getting boring, bud. Find a new schtick, because your "arent I cute to be *such* a conservative on a board full of liberals so everyone will find me fascinating" really is like listening to Savage's nightly meltdowns. Fun the first few times. Tedious and boring the remainder.

OT:From the photo and vivid descriptions (what's Russian for "pert?"), I'd say, Putin is the new Mark Fuhrman.

I'll have to reserve my opinion about The New Furhman until I see a tight jeans shot. But does Vlad use the n-word? I hope not.

DG, there's something about a bad boy... In this case, "Is that a nuke in your pocket or are you just glad to see me..." Of course, you don't want to piss off this one, or like that ill-fated spy, you end up looking like someone in the final scenes of ON THE BEACH.

In the shots of him walking with Dub I was looking to see how obvious! I think V makes a much better girlfriend for W, now that Blair broke up with him. I mean, what did those two bottoms DO together? Ya know that Vlad knows his way around a Bush.
