Well it's not like he's had some stellar career post-Star Wars anyway.
Star Wars has to be one of the most over-rated series in film history and George Lucas was once a half-decent director. He now is famous for directing computer generated images and not people.

Am I the only one who just doesn't even care about Episode Three? The last two were so awful and uninteresting that I doubt I'll be seeing part Three before it comes to cable.

Margo - The first one was an important turning point in my life - the next two were entertaining, but just movies. The last two have been miserably disappointing (although the Maxfield Parrishesque art direction of number II I liked) - I feel like I'm going to see the last one simply because I've done the rest.

I'll see it, but not for $10 and the hassle of putting up with the crowds.
I loved the first two after that it really went down hill.

We had pretty much given up on seeing ANY movies in theatres, simply because we couldn't handle the audiences. But we've discovered the Grove Theaters over in LA, and it's a pretty respectful audience - quite a few industry people go there - so that's where we'll see things we think need the 'big screen' - like Star Wars.
DGrant, have you tried the Arclight in Hollywood? Freaking amazing cinema and the most well behaved audiences I have ever known.

pop - No we haven't, so thanks for the suggestion. We really do like the experience, but audiences make it virtually intollerable. So if that provides a haven for 'safe viewing,' we'll be all over it!
Yes, Arclight took over the Cinerama Dome and they built a 14 screen complex behind the Dome too. It is without doubt the comfiest seats I have ever sat in. They have a website, I believe it's http://www.arclightcinemas.com

My high school had a big-time Star Wars cult, but going to a science magnet school will get you that. I even played in a Star Wars MUD for a little while, where I quickly proved that I really didn't know what I was doing. :P
Anyway, the new films are absolute garbage- emotionless exercises in computer animation that even this graphics-loving geek couldn't appreciate. I appreciate the pretty in movies as much as anyone else, and I have nothing against special effects, but Lucas used them to completely suck the life out of everything else. He even made Natalie Portman look talentless. (Thank goodness there's Garden State to prove otherwise.)
But I doubt I'm saying anything that hasn't already been said by people who have seen the movies waaay more times than me. :) I liked the original films, but not to the point where I take the new ones personally. If they made a crappy sequel to L.A. Confidential, on the other hand...

I'm only going to see it for Natalie.

I don't disagree with the idea, but I don't think you can fire the guy who created it.

While his career as a director arguably never matched his initial promise, it can't be denied that what his Lucasfilm, Ltd has brought to film in general (THX, for example) has been extraordinary. He provides a great deal of opportunity for many people to exercise their craft.
And, I STILL love American Graffiti
Natalie Portman and Hayden Christensen are actually very talented actors, and I don't understand how Lucas got such disgustingly awful performances out of the both of them.
As a sick SW geek, I'm hoping for the best regarding Epi.III, it's the story I think everyone was waiting for....
