One song for 2 auditions....#1

So I'm auditioning for Seussical and High School Musical 2 soon. HSM2 is asking for a contemporary pop song, a musical theatre song in the style of HSM, or a song from any HSM film.

Seussical asks for a song in the style of the show. Now I may be far-fetched in this selection, but I'm gravitating towards using "Beethoven Day" for both auditions, trying it out at Seussical and using it again for HSM2.

Originally I wanted to use a Backstreet Boys song (most likely "I Want It That Way") for the HSM2 audition, since it's contemporary pop in my range and I felt it was suitable enough.

I know, it's HSM2 and it's REALLY a 180 for me, but it's for a professional theatre, so anything to get my foot in the door.

So anywho, I think "Beethoven Day" would be a good choice for both, it's in my range, it's quirky and cute for Seussical, and nerdy-student like for HSM2, which I'd most likely be a Brainiac type, or whatever. Unless I lose 10 lbs and get fit to play a jock in a month and a half!

Thoughts?

I have done Seussical a couple of times and I have auditioned with Miracles of Miracles from Fiddler on the Roof but that might not work for HSM

I really think you should sing two different songs. HSM 2 is pretty much pop on stage. So if you're looking for a song in the style of the show, you're going to need some pop. Seussical is totally different cuz its much more mustical there (although not necessarily traditional) and really quirky. Not at all like something in HSM 2. =(

I've narrowed it down to three choices for the HSM2 audition :

1. "What Makes You Different (Makes You Beautiful)" - Backstreet Boys *contemporary pop

2. "Beethoven Day" - You're A Good Man Charlie Brown *musical theatre song

3. "I Don't Dance" - High School Musical 2 *HSM song

I've done both shows , and think "Beethoven Day" is a great idea for both shows.

Might also wanna take a look at Altar Boyz, and Bare.

Why don't you just prepare all three and give the casting directors something to choose from? They like that.

I agree with beltingbaritone. It's smart to be over prepared and casting directors like to see that.
