Boy, who knew living in New York City with a tight budget of only $7,500 a month could be done! Thank goodness everyone in the city makes well over that and we don't have such worries!
Housing Woes!
The writer/Twitter celebrity Roxane Gay published an interesting piece on "wealth porn" in the Times a few days ago on Salon. I'm linking it below--offers an interesting perspective on why they write these stories--and why many want to read them.
This is hardly the most ridiculous one I've seen, but amusing nonetheless.
Why We Read NY Times Wealth Porn
Thanks, AC! A very interesting read. If anything, articles like these infuriate me. Perhaps it's because I could never DREAM of making anywhere near $7,500 a month (collectively or alone) - and that hoity-toity attitude of the only kind of place they can live in has to be a luxury building really grinds my gears. God forbid anyone live in a 5-floor walk-up!
Check out the documentary, "Park Avenue: Money, Power and the American Dream" on Netflix if you haven't already.
Bud, you prob. realize this, but it's not a question of making $7500 a month (which, by the way, is $90,000 a year, and not exactly a fortune salary by New York standards, although certainly a respectable one, and one on which can afford a much better place to live in most American cities than one can here), it's having $7500 a month to spend just on housing.
Henrik, not only that, but that most of it is coming from the Brazilian government. I don't know much about the workings of the UN and the salary these two make, but as someone making a third of the $90,000 you mention - and living somewhat comfortably, though not extravagantly, in NYC - is when my eyes start to roll at their measly $7,500 monthly housing budget.
I think that only one of them draws a salary from the UN. The 26 year old partner is just along for the ride.
Well where can I hop on?
