Organizing music

I have TONS of music files on my computer (prepping for an MP3 Player for Christmas lol), but no real sensical way to organize it, but still listen to them easily. Any suggestions for what program I could use? Thanks!

Musicmatch mutilated my music collection. I wouldn't touch it if I were you.

Here's what you do- stick all your music files into one folder (the My Music folder, preferably) and tell iTunes to look in there. You do that by selecting Edit->Preferences->Advanced and changing the iTunes music folder to the one where you put all your music. Using the My Music folder will just make life easier for you.

Then, select the option that says "Keep iTunes folder organized." As an additional step, every time you import a cast album or any other album with multiple artists, be sure to say that all the tracks are "part of a compilation." Since iTunes organizes by artist first, choosing the compilation option will keep you from having one folder labelled "Nathan Lane" and another labelled "Nathan Lane & Matthew Broderick" if you own the OBC of The Producers, for example.

Musicmatch corrupted some of my files. And nowadays I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work with my iPod. But most of all, I just stick with iTunes because it's cleaner software. It's better-written and organized than MusicMatch. But if you're used to MusicMatch and never had a problem with it, that's cool. :)
