Sigh. It falls under the heteronormative view of "romance”... it seems the waiter assumed you were the one paying. The master. The head of the household, the “gentleman” taking care of “lady”, the type of guy who opens doors for her and pulls out chairs for her as she takes her seat. You are the BRAINS, she is the CANDY. No agency of her own, she depends on you.
Sad, and insulting, really.

Actually, in todays world a waiter will not just give the male the check. It is always put strategically between two people unless somebody specifically asks for the check. BTW - my wife used one of her credit cards to pay for the bill.
"Christmas shopping today. Tell me. Fragrances. Is there any good reason why a boy can’t buy his Dad a bottle of Chanel No.5? Why are scents assigned a gender? It… makes no sense."
Perfumes are stronger and last longer than cologne. They also typically have a floral scent and that is associated with a woman usually. If a dad likes to wear a perfume, go for it. A woman could wear cologne, they may like a lighter scent. They also would stand out because it would be different. Personally, I only wear cologne when I am dressed up for a special occasion.
Oh me too, just typical "male” scents, even when it comes to deodorants or shampoos. I don’t know why, because I generally do like the more supposedly feminine fragrances too. It defies logic!
