I try to keep up on these lists but they're always a little scary because I see a few plays that i've never heard of before. Even a show that you think isn't overdone because you've never heard of it isn't safe. Thanks for the list though.
awwww, i LOVE the laughing wild tuna monologue. not that i'd ever use it for anything since i'm not an actor...but it's so funny! i can see how it's overdone though.
Just a note: I've often done "On the Street Where You Live," and I'm a woman, and that often gets good responses. It's a great mid-range woman's song and isn't necessarily overdone for females.
You have to be careful, some directors don't like opposite sex songs. I've always been told to steer clear. On the street where you live is pretty overdone. (but a great song to sing for cabarets n such!)
For overdone songs- I hear Wicked's gaining tons and tons of popularity.
Good point, Diva - some directors don't like when you shake things up too much. Generally, good directors do like to see innovation - and another general rule, the more gender-neutral a song, the better it crosses over. If you have to change names or pronouns, steer away from an opposite-sex song.
And, iRuv, you're very right... absolutely DO NOT do Wicked! Directors will assume that Wicked is the only theatre you know if you sing it at an audition.
