Check the airfares. The airlines are adding fuel surcharges that are bringing up the fares considerably.

Also, you may find it cheaper to fly into London and spend a day or two there before taking the Euro Star to the heart of Paris. The EuroStar is clean, smooth and very efficient.

Roxy.....if you want PM me your email, and I'll send you the link at kodak.com of my Paris pix from our trip in 2004.
the Eurostar is $120 to $225 per person 2nd class depending on various rules.
And in January it's low season, so you'll be able to get a decent airfare.....unless you want to catch a West End show or two, you'll find good fares for January probably starting around October-November.
Use kayak.com, they check everyone, and bring up the best fares by doing so......
and actually ordering now for January it's only $35 cheaper to go into London from NYC, rather than Paris..(hence the Eurostar adds a bunch to your trip price)...Air India is $507 to Paris, to London they are $486.
But...I would look every couple of weeks, and seriously look in mid October every week.
My wifes travel agent always gets outrageously low prices so that is not an issue
We went in 1995 and spent a week at the Hilton a stones throw from the Eiffel Tower. While we were waiting for our room to be ready, my soon to be wife took me on the Metro to one of her favorite places - Per Lachaise cemetary.
We had a great time and look forward to going back this time armed with a video camera. My wife actually got a mime to talk when she passed by he said " hello baby"
We stayed near a metro stop called Bir - Hakeim. Lo & behold when we watched Last Tango In Paris Brando has an arguement with his girlfriend at that very stop. My wife naturally wants to see the sights such as the Louie Vuittton & Hermes & Fauchon
We will invariably buy bags of French books

Anticipating a trip is half the fun.
I went to Paris last fall and loved it. Keep us posted with the details.

Just avoid Air France. They've lost my luggage three times and last summer, when my flight from JFK was delayed, I arrived in Paris just as my connecting flight was leaving. Air France charged me $300 to book me on another flight.
Sweet of them, wouldn't you say?
If you are going to do the London thing, I wouldn't mess with Eurostar... airlines like ryan air and easyjet are REALLY cheap. We are talking $30-60 throughout Europe.
I would suggest finding the cheapest flight to any of the big W. European cities and see if you can get a flight on Ryan Air or Easyjet into Paris. I think the last time I went we flew from Florence.
Have fun! I can barely look at my pictures of Europe because I miss the area so much.
It would be off season so that should help price wise
My wife once attended Midnight Mass in Notre Dame. Sometime, we will go back & spend Christmas in Paris. We are going To Venice in 2008 for 2 weeks for our 10 th anniversary. Our honeymoon consisted of Rome/Florence/Venice. We want to go to Venice one time during carnivale

I'm calling Fox News and the Post to tell them you're going to FRANCE. What a lilly livered liberal YOU turned out to be. What next, sissyman, pate and quiche?
jealous jealous jealous ... i adore paris.
I now only fly Virgin. Even coach seems like first class on that airline
This summer, we fly to Heathrow, take a short jaunt on Air France to Charles de Gaule, rent a car, stay a week with friends in Paris and then drive to the South of France for three weeks where we stay with friends who have a lovely home in the mountains and a big pool that overlooks the countryside.
Coming home, we're taking Virgin First Class. THAT should be a treat. My only goal is to bring back 2 cases of my favorite champagne which is not exported to the USA at all. (I have to go to the actual vineyard where it is made to buy it.) Once home wih it, I will dole it only to the worthy. (LIke on Seinfield when Elaine put boyfriends through the "sponge-worthiness" inquisition.)
I will ship my clothes back by mail to have enough room for the champagne. It's simply the best. Better than Taittinger, Veuve Cliquot, even Drappier...and you cannot get it in the USA anywhere.
So if I deem you 'pagne-worthy, you may get to partake. The quiz you will cover three categories:
1) your political views
2) your literary prefereces
3) your attitude toward gay men kissing right on the Tony awards live broadcast.
If you disagree with me on any of these things, you're drinkin' Totts because you haven't earned a place in the pantheon of pagne yet...and probably never will.
Besides, I have plenty of money to spend on champagne because the trip itself is FREE.
I feel it is my duty to help dispel the terrible image of Americans that the French have by being polite, intelligent, well-read, cultured, well-educated, liberal, sympathetic and embarrassed by out current White House administration. I will also be refraining from asking everyone "Where's the ketchup?" and insisting my mayonnaise come out of a jar. I promise, also, not to threaten to "kick someone's ass" as it is a commonly held belief of the French that we are a country of violence.
Thanks
Your post gave me a laugh . Enjoy yourself in France. I know we will
P.S. Paragraph 3 line 3 - you misspelled with. Have too much bubbly my dear?
By the way, I am already there love. We intend to toast what ultimately turned out great for us . We dodged a bullet. Although I am apolitical ( in part because of attitudes such as the above ) I do not have to explain myself to anyone. I am not afraid to watch the news lest "he" comes on
All aboard the __ Polar Express
Oh, I read the topic heading and thought it to be about that dreadful Hilton girl. I guess if it were the topic would have been Paris everyone? I mean, hasn't everyone been there?
LOL!
if it was about "her" the title would read (we can hope) 'Is Paris Burning?"
penny, do you know if one can find this champagne at finer restaurants in Europe? I have yet to find a champagne I can stomach........but then most liquor I can't stomach.

I'm flying Virgin for the first time this summer. I'll fly into London and then take Ryan Air down to the Pyrenees. My European friends tell me that Ryan is a very good airline.
One of the advantages of the Eurostar is that you arrive in the heart of any city you travel to. Airports are usually a considerable distance from the city center. Last year I took the EuroStar from Paris to Amsterdam and the "Botel" I was staying at was a short walk to the left of the Centraal Station. I couldn't have asked for more convenience.
I recommend Balthazar the bistro on Rue des Ecole. Perfect bistro fare. Also I will give u the address of one of the best designer discount locations ( just don't have it w me) OH and Anne Fontaine for great shirts/blouses. A lot of their line does not come to N.A. But it's all pricey!
