There has been much hype and frenzy about the proposed Muslim culture center that is planned for lower Manhattan. The far right, with the help of the media, has branded it with a nickname that is incorrect in both the location and purpose of the facility. Having stoked the fears of the public, most politicians FROM BOTH PARTIES are abondoning whatever principles they may have had, with Mayor Bloomberg as the most notable exception.
I respect Glenn Greenwald, even if I don't necessaarily agree with him on everything. I think the article in the link below is a pretty good summary of the cowardice being exhibited by most of our elected officials.
As the Prop 8 fight has shown, the majority should not have the right to deny fundamental rights to a minority. Let's hope folks come to their senses, and soon.
