"How can I believe your theology when I can't believe your hair?"
It's always good to start the day with a nice chuckle.

"A war that was created by who? A straight, white man named George W. Bush. A straight, white man named Dick Cheney. And a straight, white man named Condoleezza Rice."
Ha!

My favorite part is when she says "Honey, rather than worry about who someone else loves--and why, think about who you hate--and why!" and then spends the rest of the article hating on Evangelical Christians, the Bush administration and other conservatives.

You don't think referring to Condi Rice as a straight, white man is hateful?
ETA: She also needs to check her facts. Last I heard white, straight Dick Cheney was for gay marriage and black, straight President Obama was against it.

I think she was just being goofy and kind of acknowledging that maybe her point wasn't completely valid after all, so that it wouldn't sound like she was condemning all straight white men for everything the world's done wrong. Like, kind of a, "...wait, nevermind..." moment.
But basically, everyone says hateful and prejudiced things, on both sides. It's kind of part of being a person.
She also needs to check her facts. Last I heard white, straight Dick Cheney was for gay marriage and black, straight President Obama was against it.
She acknowledges that later in the speech. I wish you'd read the whole thing. She's saying that if Dick Cheney can accept gay marriage, then Obama certainly should.

And if she is being hateful, directing your disgust at people who are directly oppressing a people is very different from hating an faceless group of people just simply based on the fact that they are different.
I don't like how she generalizes Christian ministers. I think that's a huge mistake people are making in this whole debate. A real Christian, who follows Christ's teachings, is not against us. They may not agree with what we want for reasons they believe are stated in the Old Testament and that is 100% their right, but they don't hate us. Unfortunately, they aren't the ones being heard. This issue shouldn't be up to a vote.

We don't necessarily know that. We don't know how Condi Rice felt about things she did on her job. We know that whatever her beliefs, she followed her employer's instructions. She can be accused of being a faithful employee, but we don't know whether she agreed with those decisions or not.

Posted: 6/15/09 at 10:10amThat's very true, Goth. Perhaps not her beliefs, but her choices and statements while in office. That's true of many people in political office, I am afraid. They must tow the company line. If many followed what they believed, they would be out of a job. I commend Cheney for his recent statements about gay marriage. Can you imagine how it would have been received if he had stated it while in or running for office?
