An overdose of oxycontin. So sad.
He wrote a wonderful YA book about gay superheros called Hero and produced all of the Narnia movies.
The book in particular was a true testament to the kind of person he was. I know of at least one young person who found it to be inspirational and empowering. I'm sure there are many others.
He will be missed.
Rest in peace Mr. Moore.

So sad.
But one of his friends posted this note on his FB page:
Perry Moore did NOT die of an overdose of oxycontin. He did not even have oxycontin. Medical examiner said he was in excellent condition overall and the cause of his death will not be known for several more days or even weeks. Any publication or site disparaging my friend with any suggestion that he overdosed should immediately take that misinformation down and apologize to Perry's friends, family and fans. It is disrespectful to those of us who knew him and loved him and it is simply incorrect.

Bringing to mind, once again, the perils of our current 'information NOW at any cost' pardigm.
The other aspect of this story, whether true or not (the concept alone is disturbing,) is his partner finding him. I simply can't imagine that devastation.
There's sadness here, on many levels.
Just saw this:
His father, Bill Moore, told The New York Daily News in Saturday editions that an initial autopsy was inconclusive. "I have no clue what happened. The examiner said he was in good condition," Bill Moore said. His father and friends said he suffered from chronic back pain.
I really hate that all the reports jumped to an overdose conclusion. And even if it ends up being an overdose, Perry certainly wasn't some pill head.
Also, I love this quote about why he decided to write "Hero":
"Like most young people, I grew up feeling alienated and different — for very specific reasons in my case — in a place that didn't value differences," he said. "I also have this borderline-crazy belief in the power of literature to change the universe. So I'd always wanted to tell this story."
Even though I never read Hero, I followed his career with interest. I'm rather shocked... people like him are what the gay community needs.

That's sad news. He did a terrific job as a producer for "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe."
