A great journalist and a nice guy. ( The Canadian in him!) I knew this was on the cards but didn't want to deny hope. I hope he will come home to Ottawa for his final resting place. AH Peter we hardly knew ye...

A truly sad day.

How very sad. I was really hoping that somehow Peter would pull through. My mom died of lung cancer three years ago - it is a slow, agonizing death. May he rest in peace.

And I second that emotion: if you smoke, call your doctor and talk with him/her about quitting options. If you don't smoke, DON'T START.

This is terribly sad. Peter Jennings was always my favorite of the "big 3" networks.

Peter Jennings was one of the reasons I started watching the news when I was younger. He was so dedicated. My personal favorite was his amazing broadcast at the fall of the Berlin Wall - when someone handed him a piece of the wall and he was just astounded. Around 9/11/01, I remember trying to catch as much news as possible, and he was always there - sometimes trying to grab food or water during commercials... Anyways, he always delivered the news with sincere interest and grace, and I will miss that.


Smoking is bad. Please, please, guys...

Peter Jennings had a summer/weekend house out here on Long Island. I met him at a charitable event about 15 years ago. He was a real chain smoker in those days and at one point I observed that he had a lit cigarette in his mouth and another in his hand.

He was a charming, intelligent man. He'll be missed.
