I saw a Youtube video in which Betty Dodson was praising the installation of Plan B vending machines. I have nothing but respect for her but I'm not sure what I think. Of course I'm in favor of Plan B being available, but do you think the vending machine aspect encourages irresponsibility? Would a condom vending machine be a better idea?I can't imagine that repetitive ingestions of Plan B would be without health affects. Just thought it was interesting. Thoughts?

I don't think there's much difference since it is available without a prescription. It just makes it more accessible for women who don't want to have to deal with another human being to get what they need.

I guess if I saw one in a high school I might look twice, but they have condom machines everywhere so it makes sense that contraception should be available for women as well.

....but the world goes 'round

As much as the media wants us to believe, sexual responsibility falls on both parties.

Have long term studies been conducted on Plan B?

The thing is, though, is it really contraception? I tend to think of it as damage control - taken after the fact, obviously. I'd rather see something that promotes caution in the first place. Trouble is most female birth control is a regiment, so Plan B is one of the only options for a sporadic escapade.

Most people don't understand what Plan B is. It is not an abortion pill or anything similar. It simply provides a higher dose of hormones, making the lining of the uterus unwelcoming for a fertilized ovum. Most oral contraceptives do the same, but the difference is that the dosage is less. In typical oral contraceptives, the goal is keeping the ovaries from releasing an egg. Stopping implantation is just considered a back up, in case an egg is released. There are no known long term side effects of taking Plan B several times a year or even multiple times in one cycle.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

Glinda, this is for after the promotion of caution has not worked. This is one tool in the collection available to everyone, and that everyone should have access to equally.
