Thanks for this, Dame.
About two months ago, I made sure I had canvas bags at home and at the office, and I have a nylon one that folds to the size of a deck of cards that I keep in my shoulder bag.
It was annoying at first, having to remember to take the tote bags with me, but now it's second nature. It was so easy, really, and it feels so good to do a positive thing.
i always ask for triple bags or even quadruple. then i take the empties and toss them in the hudson.
papa, is that before or after you suffocate baby seals with them?
silly cal. all you need to do is squeeze an omega 3 capsule open and a drop of that inside each one will draw all the seals around.

You still need some to line your home trash cans.
You line your trash cans with baby seals?

Well, like our votes, Papa, we probably pretty much cancel each other out.
LOL @ Papa!
OK, now I feel guilty that I use plastic bags. But I do need them to clean out the litter box.
Come to England. We've been on the plastic bag moral crusade for months now, and there are people out there who'd probably cut you if you asked for a bag in a shop. Or at the very least mutter under their breath then charge you 3p.
I like cotton bags. I have an astounding array, and because they're "cool" now, you can get some really funky ones. Like my great big beautiful RSC Histories Cycle one. Now THAT makes me happy. :3
My mom lives in Ireland and she uses recylcable (sp?) bags there as well.
*sigh*
I guess I need to break down and buy some fabric bags.
They're getting ready to start charging for them here in Seattle - you want a plastic bag? You pay $0.20.
The thing is that I do use them to carry my wet clothes when I swim and don't want to get my gym bag all stinky.
There are some stores that charge you here for them as well.

I have two of those totes, but I often forget to bring them. I don't take the little bags for CDs and books anymore, because there really is no use for them.
I'm still gonna need some plastic for my trash bins, though.

If Julia Roberts can use them, so can you!
