Paul Anka "swinging" Smells Like Teen Spirit - basically a Bill Murray skit, but not a skit. He was SERIOUS.

Tori Amos does a marvellous piano ballad version of Smells Like Teen Spirit. After Kurt Cobain died, in live performances, she would sing American Pie and when it got to "the day the music died" she would then go straight into Teen Spirit. Love her. But Paul Anka sounds like an a**hole .

I have no problems taking a rock song and turning it into a lovely ballad if it's done well.

I also hated that slow version of Layla by Eric Clapton. That had that lounge-y feel to me as well. But this is in an entirely different league.
