BUMP
You gotta love an organization that has the guts to proclaim that "there is no science to psychiatry, only ABUSE". Brought to you by the Church of Scientology...

What you have done is provide a link to a front group of the Church of Scientology (tm). It would be very good if you could apply your critical thinking skills by doing some research into the whys and wherefores of Scientology's war against psychotherapy.

"Whatever their claims, psychiatrists create unhappiness."
"What is the Citizens Commission on Human Rights?"
With all due respect, Gavrochegirl, if you are going to post stating that something is important and imploring us to DO something, then know what you are posting about. "Cut me some slack, I'm only twelve" shouldn't be used as an excuse. I'll happily listen to anything someone your age has to offer, but I expect that the person has done their homework, so to speak, if I am being admonished to take action.

Funny, Mr. James Barbour doesn't seem to even mention Scientology in his note urging 12 year olds and other uncritical thinkers to "get involved."
"For those of you who are not familiar with CCHR," he writes, "I urge you to become familiar. In brief, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights is a non-profit, public benefit organization dedicated to investigating and exposing psychiatric violations of human rights.... If you or anyone you know has been a victim of psychiatric abuse PLEASE notify CCHR. All the contact information is on their website. Educate yourself and those around and join me in the fight to put an end to this horrific abuse."
What if we "become familiar" and don't like what we see?
No problem. Scientology pushes my buttons, and while I'm sure one can uncover some unsavory occurances at mental facilities, I shudder to think what the world...hell, what BroadwayWorld...would be like without psychiatrists or psychotropic medications.

All five of the links on Mr. James Barbour's website are to Scientology front organizations. All five.
Well, that's enough to land the good Mr. Barbour solidly on my Wacko List.

Here's an interview with world famous Scientologist Tom Cruise and filmmaker and Holocaust historian Steven Spielberg in the German magazine Der Spiegel.
The German government has not been as amenable to the notion that Scientology is a religion, in fact, they consider it a cult. The tension must have been really THICK in the air when they got around to discussion of Scientology. And they get pretty feisty when asking Spielberg what "volunteer ministers of Scientology" were doing on set of War of the Worlds.

wow... namo's leading us all to hell.
leave her alone.
I believe that Namo's posts have evolved into an expose of Scientology and the irresponsibility of Mr. Barbour in leading fans to the aforemention links without identifying them as all being Scientology-affiliated, as opposed to being aimed at the original poster who was led astray. This thread stopped being about Gavrochegirl quite a while ago.

Hold it. HOLD IT.
What the hell are you talking about AbbaRabbit? People are not supposed to think or talk critically when somebody posts a link to a front group by what many people feel is a dangerous cult?
This is the real problem with this board. Nothing I posted in this was meant as an "attack" on gavgirl. Scientology and its tactics has been something that has fascinated me for years.
But around here, unless people give people the answers the original posters want or couch anything that can be perceived as criticism with about a dozen apologies and statements and restatements of intent, then people feel attacked?
Christ, almighty. In her ignorance (and, here, I can play the game too: I don't mean "ignorant" as a slam or an insult or personally in ANY way, OMG, okay, you guys? seriously, for real!) she posted a link that seemed reasonable. WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO WORK TO STOP ABUSE IN ANY WAY????? But try to pull back and get a clearer view and suddenly it's a personal attack.
Let's just say that somebody posts a link to some sort of cult that "appears" to be a non-profit doing good work and that uses celebrities to shill for it. But the non-celebrities in the cult are not treated well, and in fact lose their life savings and spend all of their time paying back the debt they incrue paying for the religious "services" offered by the cult. Let's just say that some vulnerable person falls into that situation because of that link.
Is it NOT okay to warn people about it? Or is it fine if somebody falls into it because a celebrity posted something that a 12 year old who didn't know any better passed along?
Maybe you want to consider changing the subject title of this thread, gavrochegirl.
Nothing is more off-putting than an artist forcing his beliefs in a very controversial 'cult' on innocent visitor of his/her website.

STUDENTS BOARD STUDENTS BOARD STUDENTS BOARD STUDENTS BOARD
Wow, second time I agree with Namo today - what's with this?
ETA - spoke too soon on half of that, apparently. HOW is this remotely a student issue? She should just post something there because she's young, I suppose.
gavroche, I think he's done attacking you - now maybe he's just trying to show you what you missed in not researching.
