I spent the weekend weeding the garden, and now I have a lovely little poison ivy rash creeping up my arm. I knew the poison ivy was there. I was careful not to touch it. Poison Ivy prevailed.
I've been using Cortaid a few times a day, which helps with the itch. Anyone have any foolproof, more natural remedies? I don't think I can use this stuff for more than a few days (what is it with topical 'roids? Will I get a big muscle in my arm if I use it too long?) Any advice is appreciated!

Baking soda.
Run a HOT bath and put a considerable amount of the baking soda into the water. Soak the affected area(s). The baking soda will leach the poison out of you skin. There will be a noticeable difference the following day. The affected area's will begin to dry out. Continue baking soda bath daily until it is gone.

vbplayer is right.
Caladryl works wonders!
However, be careful! I didn't know you could be allergic to it but my friend used it and she broke out in hives and her throat closed up and had to go to the hospital.
Obviously, it doesn't happen to most people- just a fair warning

If you live near the beach, salt water does wonders, too.
Unbeknownst to me, I sat in a patch of it about 10 years ago on vacation. Let me tell you, that wasn't a very pleasant experience!!!

Posted: 7/6/06 at 9:35pmI've never tried this myself, but I know someone who swears by this method. Take a very hot shower for a few minutes, then switch to cold water for a minute. He says it relieves the itching for quite a while.
