I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that one. I really hope that when people speak of sexism toward Palin they speak in terms of her hire. The media is just doing it's job.
Everyday when I hear people talking about Sarah Palin I'm reminded of Pygmalion the play that My Fair Lady was based on. There are some scenes in that play that are really interesting parallels.
Henry Higgins became so enthralled with his bet or his goal he totally walks all over this innocent woman he waved chocolates in front of. Eliza certainly had street smarts and was capable of getting out of that house, but she didn't and when she tried she get's caught in a place where she no longer had any power.
At the close of the play (I don't believe this is in the musical) Eliza literally turns the tables on Higgins and he loses. This is what I expect from Palin.

Innocent my ass. Why is she this innocent pawn? She knows exactly what she's doing, and is using McCain as much as he's using her.
I do not buy the argument that Palin is a "victim". The position and views she expresses now are the same as those before she accepted as McPain's running-mate. She was caught in lies and scandals previously just as she is now. She has chosen her path from the beginning and has never stopped playing the game the exact same way. The only difference is, the stakes are much higher. People have declined the offer for VP before. She didn't. She claims to have "battled with Republicans" in the past, but she sure hasn't chosen to recently. If she felt she was strong-armed into the appointment, then she certainly put her party before her morals or ethics, which only makes her look less sympathetic. I think she knew she was chosen for being conservative and a woman and I've no doubt she had no problem exploiting the use of sexism to get ahead. One person's "sexism" could easily be another's "empowerment". Does anyone honestly think she (or any other conservative Republican female politician) wouldn't jump at the chance of being the first female VP of the United States while the President is in his 70s when he's elected? Come on!
And if she truly supports equal benefits for same-sex partners because she's still friends with a girl she kissed in a hot tub at a frat party for free beer at one of those colleges she briefly attended (but barely remembers), then I'm Benny Hill.
According to my conservative colleagues, who dislike her, The real reason she was chosen was that she had carried to term a special-needs child.
That made a saint in the eyes of the anti-abortion crowd.
That was the real (and so very sick!) Rovian brilliance of choosing her.

Seriously? Then after four seasons of "Life Goes On" they should elect Patti LuPone President of the Motherfreakin' United States.
