What, if any, kind of virus protection do y'all have? I know it's not necessary, etc, etc, but I'd like to look into getting something just to be on the safe side.
I don't plan to get any. The other people I know with macs don't have them either!
I don't use Virus Protection on any of my macs but if you would like to have some information a few of the virus programs out there, here is an article that might help:
Virus Protection on Mac OS X
Thanks.
Most people I know who have Macs and use virus software have either Virex or Norton/Symantec (which is what Apple reccomends), so I'm deciding between those two.

Says it's compatible with OSX 10.4; does that mean it's not compatible with 10.4.4?
No. It just means that that version probably came out before 10.4.4 did.
Symantec has monthly virus updates for this product so it stays up-to-date in that regard and if there is a system update they will immediately follow with a software update.

Honest to god, it is seriously a complete, 100% waste of money. Go to www.MacNN.com and check out their forums, you absolutely do not need any third-party adware/spyware/virus protection utilities with Mac OS X, I promise. Spend your money on something more worthwhile!
There are viruses that hurt Macs, and I really don't want to go through the hell I went through with my PC. I might not get anything, but I'm considering it.
It was because of Norton that I had to buy a new computer. I had just installed the latest version of it that completely screwed up my Dell.
Norton IS sort of awful--it tended to freak out and freeze my computer pretty often. I've had better experience with Symantec on my old PC, though I know they're by the same company so I have no idea what the difference is.
I don't have virus protection on my Mac right now, nor do most Mac-users that I know... but as they become more popular, sooner or later it's going to be more popular to engineer viruses that target Macs.

Urgh, Norton. It never actually did harm to my computer, but damn it takes up a lot of CPU. I would say to use AVG, but it's only for Windows and Linux for now. And Em, you're correct about viruses affecting Macs. It's not as bad as with PCs, but I've seen it happen.
It helps to be VERY discriminating in opening email.
