I always knew she was a kook like her brother, but until I got linked to her website, i just had no idea how bad it was. I had a lot of fun poking around there reading all about her "beliefs." It certainly brightened up the night. I recommend you check out her advice on picking the right church. Lots of entertainment there.

Growing in God with Candace? REALLY?
I wonder what Valeri Bure has to say about this. He never struck me as the God fearing type

I dunno if I ever told y'all this, but when I was in junior high and was a BIG OL Holy Roller it was when I lived in California and went to Calvary Community Church in Westlake, CA. And a certain famous family had recently discovered Jesus and came to our church.
Yes, I recall standing amongst my junior high brethren only to turn to my left and see Kirk Cameron standing there introducing himself to people very modestly as Kirk. Even though we ALL knew his name. But that's how modest stars behave before they get high and mighty and bat**** crazy.
I recall my fellow megachurch Christmas musical castmates and I sneaking into the balcony of the theatre...I mean church... to see if we could get a glimpse of the Cameron family that was about to watch us perform for them. (Surely our tickets to Hollywood stardom would be handed promptly after).
I recall bravely approaching Candace in the parking lot one Sunday, who was very nervous, but very sweet upon shaking my clammy 8th grade hand. This meeting was thanks to a fellow junior high friend who had earlier befriended the family (and has sense denounced her Christianity the same as myself).
The funny part was that I attended junior high with their cousin, singing with her in the choir. She was SOOOOO unfazed by her cousins' fame. But that's life when you go to school with kids who would miss a day of school because they had a bit part on Silver Spoons or Webster. This was my life attending church for my 2 years in Cali amongst all of the great B stars of the late 80s.
In fact, my first celeb run in ever was none other than Alan Thicke and Kristy McNichol, who headline the Distinguished California Schools Event in San Francisco that my junior high show choir performed in--my first solo EVER. Yes, y'all. My first solo EVER in public was in front of Alan ****ing Thicke and Kristy Little Darlings McNichol.
WHY wasn't this story in Jerby With A "Y"??

Unless, of course, they are making the wine out of water.
And Jerby, I love your brush with sub-stardom stories!

Jerby -- I read your posts all the time (along with Namo)
Love your observations.
I am sick and tired of the Camerons of this world giving advice to people.
The PALLLLEEEZE button goes to these Super-Christians who use the Bible to their discretion. Anytime you see "Calvary' "Community" or "Victory" in their church name, WATCH OUT!

Most churches have websites and on there they usually have a section marked “What we believe” or “Statement of Faith”. The best thing to do is read through that section and compare it to what Candace has on her site in her “Statement of Faith” section if you notice major differences that should be a red flag.
So, if your church believes differently than Candace, then it's not a good place? The WORD according to Candace? Jesus would LOVE that.

I think my favorite one is this:
How do I deal with my non-Christian friends and family?
This can be one of the most difficult things when you become a new Christian. As your friends and family see changes in you and hear you talk about your faith the reaction isn't always pleasant. Your friends and family are going to expect you to be the same person you've always been but when the Lord saves you, you become a new creation in Christ and are instructed to flee from sin. The friend you used to go out drinking with isn't likely to be thrilled when they find out you aren't doing that anymore. They may be angry with you or make fun of you. You may lose friends in the process. It isn't easy but stand strong in your faith for Christ and pray that God will change the hearts of your friends and family. Also surround yourself with other Christians who can pray for you and encourage you.
In other words, no friends outside of the other Christian friends you have, because no one else truly understands. And, have no respect for your non-Christian friends.
How very Christ-like.

Posted: 12/6/09 at 11:42amI think I saw that same statement on GLADD's website, of course they were talking about coming out to friends and family as a GLBT person, not as a delusional lunatic.

To my Baptist friends:
Blessed Mother Mary asked J to turn water into wine -- J said it was not his time to reveal his divine -- But he did it anyway.
Jewish boys to this day can not say "NO" to their moms. But that is another story.
And the folks at the wedding said it was better than than the rot- gut the host had originally offered.

Posted: 12/6/09 at 12:52pmThere was, but the belief is not based on that, but the scripture that says, "The body is a temple." Things that can cause harm shouldn't be administered. Addictive things like alcohol, cigarettes and gambling are a sin according to many protestants.

I'm sure the two are good friends. They seem to have similar views.

See, the Catholics aren't ALL bad. We do love our libations, and gambling (don't ask those little old ladies to give up their Bingo, or the Casino night fundraisers).

Posted: 12/6/09 at 6:58pmThe most surprising thing I have heard regarding Christianity and alcohol is that when my family went to church (we stopped going when I was about five and I'm now an atheist), my sister recalls before her first communion the religion teacher or whatever you call them suggested asking their parents to practice drinking wine. Luckily, she only pretended to drink the wine, which was unsanitary because everybody drank from the same cup and they used the same cloth to wipe it off. I am just amazed that A) a church would encourage underage drinking and B) the church would be that unsanitary.

Posted: 12/6/09 at 7:02pmWell, in Europe, they don't think anything of kids drinking wine. In moderation, it's quite healthy. And for communion, hardly anything, eh?
