I cannot say how much I truly loved this movie! It's not a musical, but it sure felt like one. It was straight out of the Catherine Deneuve/Jacques Demy repertoire from the 60's and 70's.

My impetus to check it out was Berenice Bejo, and she is indeed wonderful in a supporting role, but the two leads made pure movie magic together. Deborah Francois is sure to become an obsession, and my friend and I are going to track down her earlier movies.

This is SO worthy checking out, and next to Short Term 12 it could be my favorite of the year so far.

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

We're showing it at the theater where I work in a couple of weeks. I'm excited!

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

I absolutely concur. I loved this movie - a delight from start to finish! Romain Duris was also excellent, as always. A definite DVD purchase for me when it comes out.

Check out The Page Turner in your Deborah Francois quest next, if you haven't already seen it.

It's a beyond stylish, amazingly beautiful movie. Whizzer's comparison to the Demy films of the '60s is more than apt.

You can't miss it if you love Doris Day/Rock Hudson comedies. It does drag a bit in places. It could maybe lose about 10-15 minutes and feel a lot breezier. Still, it's totally charming. Déborah François is flat out adorable.
