Porpoise-Driven Rick Warren continues to lose integrity over proposed Ugandan anti-gay bill

Whether or not Warren is padding numbers here is irrelevant. Regardless of whether it is 146 people or 146, 000 people, no should be persecuted because of their faith and by that same point, no one should be persecuted because of their orientation. A true man of God would find that commonality.

And worse, Warren's comments make me wonder whether or not he cares about those poor Christians or does he view them as debate points to keep attention away from the dereliction of his pastoral duties.

Why was it so difficult for him to just condemn the bill? Historically, there have been pastors who did not have the influence or the money that Warren has and they still took stances against unjust laws. There have been pastors who knew that death awaited them if they spoke out, but they still took stance against unjust laws.

So what's the deal with Warren? Was he threatened in a highly violent manner or does he just not care?

Playing the awful game of comparison the way he did is something I would expect from a politician, and not a pastor.

But Warren is indicative now of so many so-called pastors and Christians who choose to jump in the public eye. As the spotlight shines on them, we all get blinded by their hypocrisy.

Very few people want to bring this up but there is a serious problem with the mindsets of some Christians in this country.

They go beyond merely defending their values. They are attempting to create a reality where their beliefs are the ones on top of some type of ecclesiastical food chain.

They claim to be under persecution but their definition of being persecuted lies in their inability to deal with the fact that this is a multicultural society, not a Christian one.

We are seeing that now with incidents such as the so-called Manhattan Declaration and with how the Catholic Church is using the services it provides to the poor to threaten the Washington, D.C. city council.

The irony is that Warren is also a member of this same group who are always complaining about the erosion of Christian values in America.

If this is true, all of them, especially Warren, should take a good look in the mirror before pointing fingers.

One of Obama's first mistakes - having that Troll as part of the inauguration. Freaking topper.

Yep, they are now inexorably linked.

And this dude is a hate-mongering piece of sh*t.

Rick Warren is not losing credibility among people he gives a damn about. He is gaining credibility among people whose support he values, the Hateful Christian Coalition, who just happen to be running the country.

Rachel Maddow spoke about this on her show at length last night. She will continue again tonight with a list of names of people who are poised to stop this, but won't.

I saw that, too, Dottie. I'm astounded by how many people don't know what's going on.

Maddow's been following this story, and will continue to do so. Frankly, I'm far less concerned about Rick Warren, and FAR MORE concerned about the links to members of Congress. Seems like the Ugandan sponsor of this bill is a core member of 'The Family', a secretive DC organization that claims many conservative Senators and Congressmen among its members. This group is sort of an invisible caucus, and includes many of the ConservaDems who supported the Stupak amendment to the House healthcare bill, which would set abortion rights back.

Its always good to know whats going on with Obama's close friends.

Has anyone DEMANDED Obama to publicly Denounce Warren for these comments and apologize or has Obama offered him a job in his administration? Seriously, the President needs to distance and condemn him for this.

Yeah, I agree that it is more troubling. And when you start looking at some of the people involved with The Family, it is mind boggling.

romantico, I don't know that anyone has made that demand of Obama, probably because it will fall on big ol' deaf ears.

phyllis, i demand that you take that back. just because he is not catering to your narrow, niche demands that the gay people be treated as human beings and not silent self-motivating atms does not mean he is not still the president of these united states of 'murricah. you will damn well treat him with the same respect that you have afforded every man who has sat in the oval office! ear jokes? really???? for shame!

I'm not holding my breath.Obama thinking the gays will vote for him in 2012 is a joke and my guess is, during mid 2012 Obama will do his best to win us over somehow.A year ago I would have NEVER thought he would have turned his back on us.At least with McCain we knew what we were getting. I somehow was foolishly thinking there would be some kind of change. Yeah, I could have sworn I heard something like that during the campaign.

Obama's silence on the matter is surprising. You'd think that our highest ranking Homophobe would be throwing his weight behind this measure.

Obama's silence on the NY State Senate Gaybashing and impending Uganda Legislation is getting rather deafening. We already know he supports legal discrimination against gays -- this is a matter of public record. Is his support for the death penalty for gays too outrageous to consider?

For the record, I don't really think Obama wants us all dead. He wants us all to do his wife's hair and decorate the White House at Christmas. But when it comes to full equality for gays and lesbians, he's not interested.

I think Roscoe has every right to feel the way he does.I feel betrayed. Even though I knew his views on marriage equality before I voted for him, I thought then and still think he was the better choice. However,I think the gay community needs to really send a message to Obama. A month or two ago Obama spoke to a crowd of gays and lesbians and gave a really nice speech and all. Well, GLAAD and HRC and other gay organizations need to stop inviting him to speak. They need to stop praising him and helping him.Hell, I think gays and lesbians should do something similar but VERY DIFFERENT to what Fox and Glen Beck have done and that is to organize a peaceful demonstration to DC and voice our concerns and remind Obama how many of us there are and that we voted for him and change.

Speeches are great and motivational and I love a good speech. However, actions speak louder than words and I want Obama to shut up and act.DADT would be good start. He promised it on his campaign trail but for some reason is waiting for the right time.He is sending 30,000 troops off and I wonder how many of those 30,000 are gay or lesbian.I am hopeful but at the same time pissed off.So, I tend to cut people like Roscoe some slack. When the man who gave a prayer at Obama's inauguration says what he says and Obama remains silent his actions not only hurt but it says a lot about the man and his character.

This President's actions and record so far on gay issues would be no different under a Palin Presidency or any other right wing extremist administration.
