Re Murphy, word is he is not doing the requisite gladhanding & begging etc amonst those who vote. true, Norbit did not help but.....

Anyone out there still think the awards are given out purely on the basis of performance?

If Hudson loses, watch, it will help her career, not hurt it. She'll be brokebacked, the likely winner shut out, rather than the oversold girl-who-can-only-sing (I always love that "only sing" -- like giving a blistering singing performance on screen in small beer achievemen). In a world were Hillary Swank is now considered an undeserved double winner, there will be prestige to losing.

But I think she'll win.

Auggie27---That's a good point, and you're absolutely right about the perception of Hudson as "oversold" vs. "unrewarded."

She'd do better (most likely) career-wise with a loss!

Isn't Hollywood grand?
