Post-Secondary training

I'm a grade 11 student at a highschool in Ontario and the people in my guidance office aren't helpful at all with what I want to do. I want to get more training in Musical Theatre and all they keep doing is shoving Ontario Universities down my throat, and the only relavant one is Sheridan... Not that they're bad but I'm pretty sure I want to go to school in the US preferably New York. Can someone tell me what schools with quality Musical Theatre programs are like? also, What is the difference between a conservatory and a Univerisity?

And don't you just despise guidance counselors? I told them I wanted a BFA in Musical Theatre and they just smile and nod...
