Pres Bush comments regarding the death of Terri Schiavo

"I urge all those who honor Terri Schiavo to continue to work to build a culture of life where all Americans are welcomed and valued and protected."

All Americans? All Americans are not welcomed or valued or protected, regardless of what you say, President Bush. Your past polices and beliefs have proven this time and time again.

re: Pres Bush comments regarding the death of Terri Schiavo

As I said on the other thread, I think that he would have been better served offering the nations condolences. The politics could have waited for a more appropriate time. I do think he's being pushed a bit.

Regardless of what/how you think Bush's policies comport with his above statement, it's still a fine sentiment that everyone should work toward. Including him. Including you.

the ultimate price indeed

Already we're hearing about how "the nation" is mourning. But perhaps what we're mourning is the loss of our privacy, our precious freedoms, and a checked/balanced government that functions as it was desgned to, from 1776 on.

First of all, how many other deaths inspire this notoriously closed-mouthed President to step forward and discuss grief within minutes of the citizen's expiring? Start with the soldiers and work your way down the list. He euphemizes military death, always referring to it as someone having "...paid the ultimate price ..." WE are now paying the ultimate price for having watched congress and this President and the Governor of Florida, and a perpetual Martin Luther King wannabe, Jesse Jackson, inject themselves into deeply personal affairs of the lives of citizens. As Birch, the arch conservative judge in Florida stated, they all acted "...in a manner demonstrably at odds with our founding fathers' blueprint for the government of a free people..." You can't state it any more bluntly, or accurately, and once again, this is from Judge from the farthest right.

Thank you, Auggie!
The deaths of thousands of soldier and citizens of the US and Iraq don't even warrant the presence of our president at a single funeral (again, I know I read he's the first president to avoid a single military funeral), but the death of this poor woman is going to be milked for every single thing it's worth.
Culture of life? Give me access to health care, Dubya, and then we'll talk about promoting a culture of life?
Oh, wait, sorry, you're too busy having signed legislation as governor of Texas that allowed a little child to be removed from machines that kept him alive because his mother couldn't afford it.

except feodor that as a gay man, I and my partner are NOT "welcomed and valued and protected" by Adolf Bushes policies.......and for his royal Assness to even say the line shows just how much a hypocrite he is

"The essence of civilization is that the strong have a duty to protect the weak," Bush said. "In cases where there are serious doubts and questions, the presumption should be in favor of life."

Ok, Dub...there are serious doubts and questions that being gay means you're evil and destroying civilization. So shouldn't you err on the side of life here?

Oh, and by the way, I love that he says protecting the weak is the essence of civilization. I encourage you to dive into your history books and find examples where this is the norm and not the deviant.

and under his breath bush was saying, "except for the gays"

HYPOCRITE
Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be enbered with your old nonsense. ~ Emerson

Yes, all the more reason that it should apply. We should ALL continue to work for that. That's all I meant.

We should all work for that - however coming from Bush it is the definition of the word hypocrisy. His administration has never worked to build a culture of life where all Americans are welcomed and valued and protected.

the ultimate price indeed

Granted; but that implies that most of what any politician says isn't hypocritical, to somebody. Sady, politicians ARE hypocrites. It all comes down to whether or not you're on the receiving end of their hypocrisy.

Culture of life in my opinion includes abolishment of death penalty in my book... Bush has a long way to go...

W -- the Life President/the Death Governor

Yes, the man who signed off on 150 plus Texas executions has now said, famously, "you always want to err on the side of LIFE...", not even seeing the cruel irony in the remark, since we know of countless occasions (Illinois, anyone?) where death row inmates were revealed to be innocent. To err on the side of life means all lives matter, period. We're one of the few countries in the 'civilized' world who still uses the death penalty.

Curiously, the Cosmos has managed to bump Terri's "death" (to many she died 15 years ago) off the news with the Pope's failing health. Whether you're a Catholic or not, the cruel irony here is, his feeding tube has truly kept him alive for a powerful purpose: to finish his mission on earth, all faculties intact. When his condition and Schiavos are compared, as some media whores tried to do this a.m., the logic is specious and rather pitiful. But these are pitiful times.

W -- the Life President/the Death Governor

Meanwhile, while "millions" mourn Terri Schiavo, a woman who exists for most as a 2D video clip looping endlessly in their heads... I spent the day at the funeral of a 16 year old who died waiting for a double lung transplant that didn't happen in time. She was a terrific kid with a wonderful mind, a sense of humor, and a love of life that stayed with her until her body gave out. To me, that is the much greater tragedy.

Amen, Iflit.

The need for organ donation deserves more press and should be part of the family dialogue regarding our healthcare and living will wishes.

Absolutely! Donating organs really needs to be pushed to the forefront. What the hell does Oprah talk about everyday?
