Large billboards advocating gay Christian tolerance in Indiana have been defaced and sprayed with black paint.
The billboards are part of a large ad campaign by Faith in America, a Raleigh, N.C., group that seeks to end bigotry based on religion. They were sponsored locally by Jesus Metropolitan Community Church in Indianapolis.
"I think it shows the lengths some people will go to suppress ideas rather than have a dialogue," pastor Jeff Minor told the Indianapolis Star.
Faith in America leased the billboard space last week, putting up messages including "Jesus affirmed a gay couple" and "Jesus said some people are born gay."
The local Christians were predictably critical of Faith in America's campaign, suggesting that the gay group has misinterpreted the Bible and distorted scripture for a pro-gay agenda.
The Rev. Andy Hunt of Body of Christ Community Church, however, criticized the vandalism.
Acknowledging resentment of the ads, he said, "It ignites passions whenever someone brings a lie against the God you worship," Hunt told the Indianapolis Star. "But we can't go down to their level." (Hassan Mirza, Gay.com U.K.)

This is disgusting.
And what did that pastor mean by "go down to their level"?

This cracks me up. Because, of course, Christians have never intentionally manipulate biblical passages to promote an agenada.... And certainly never in the case of homosexuality.....
Oh Christianity. Such a hypocritical caprice you have become.
Color me surprised.
Can religion just f*cking go away now? I'm sick to death of the unfathomable conflict and hatred it continues to cause all over the world. Wake up, people...it's 2007. We have something wonderful called SCIENCE now. Check it out!
Religion, in my opinion isn't all bad...well, at least spirituality isn't ---
but organized religion scares the daylights out of me. It seems to have the appearance of a herd mentality. I mean seriously....what reasonable person would follow a set of rules laid down by man and follow them blindly?
Apparently someone like George Bush.
"I mean seriously....what reasonable person would follow a set of rules laid down by man and follow them blindly?"
Especially rules made thousands of years ago that in no way apply to today's world, with the exception of the bigiies- (murder, adultery, stealing) and so on. But these rules are norms that dictate the morality of our world, and every civilization has these common rules.
Oh, except for war- I guess we can all kill as much as we want in the name of Religion.

Gee, for those here who claim to be stage actors, you all seem to have a lot of time hanging out on messages boards all day. Hmmmm. What's wrong with this picture? Shouldn't you all be out going for auditions?
Oh come on guys. Amanda just got back from Indiana. Give her a couple minutes to regroup!
and for someone who doesn't like anyone here you certainly seem to spend enough time here wasting people's time posting your inane nonsense
No, No, please....
Let Amanda speak.
Because every time it posts, it shows how brain dead it really is.

This stuff scares the crap out of me. Are we entering another age of discrimination and hate? This is the reason why I'm reluctant to be religious.
There is nothing wrong with religion. My parents and best friends are devoted Christians. There's nothing wrong with having faith and following blindly. I think the problem is with some of the people that practice organized religion. How is our dismissing a whole group do to a few assholes, and different then them dismissing me because I prefer the Whoo-Hoo to the Hoo-Hah.
"There's nothing wrong with having faith and following blindly."
There is nothing wrong with having faith, but I don't quite agree with the 'following blindly' part.
That's how people end up drinking kool-aid and waiting for UFOs under purple blankets.

Soapguy - Following blindly is what led to the Holocaust.
It is never good to follow something blindly.

I take that back then. Having faith is good, following blindly is not.
That's how people end up drinking kool-aid and waiting for UFOs under purple blankets.
Damn, there goes my Saturday night plans......
Make sure you have enough change in your pocket.
MYB, rather than focusing on what the vandals did to these billboards, why not focus on what the organization that put the billboards up is doing? It is work like this--showing the world the inclusive love of God--that makes religion still valuable and vital, even in 2007 and in light of the science that we know.
Having faith isn't the problem, I think. The problem is people (zealots) who are so blinded by how society has in the past treated the homosexual community. People who think that they are righteous for damning something that "isn't the norm." People who pay absolutely no attention to most of the bible. Who only site Leviticus and the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. People that skim over Jesus' teachings of love, acceptance, and tolerance. Those people have more faith in judgment and fear of difference than they do in God.
Odd rant on my part.

Rush Limbaugh billboard near I-83 defaced
Official: 'It looks like they took globs of paint and threw it on his face'

Apparently, somebody in Baltimore isn't a fan of Rush Limbaugh.
A large billboard advertising local air times for the conservative radio talk-show host has been defaced.
Robert Murrow, a spokesman for the city's Department of Public Works, saw the vandalism as he drove to work this morning on I-83 near the Guilford Avenue exit. He called The Sun, saying that someone had poured paint on the image of Limbaugh's face.
Limbaugh, who is nationally syndicated, can be heard on WCBM 680 AM from noon to 3 p.m.
"It looks like they took globs of paint and threw it on his face. It looks great. It did my heart good," said Murrow, who admittedly is not a Limbaugh fan.
Kurt L. Kocher, chief spokesman for the city's Department of Public Works and Murrow's supervisor, took issue with Murrow's statement.
"As much as you don't like Rush Limbaugh, you don't endorse vandalism, period," Kocher said. "It's an outrageous comment, and he shouldn't have said it. It is not our policy. I think he got overenthusiastic about his feelings for Mr. Limbaugh. I am very upset about that comment, and I've let him know I'm very upset about that comment. It's his personal comment and it's wrong."
The billboard is privately owned; Murrow said the city is not responsible for cleaning it.
Robert L. Pettit, the general manager for WCBM, said the vandalism was first noticed on Monday and that the billboard is to be replaced later today. It was put up two weeks ago in an alley near Preston Street and Mount Royal Avenue.
"It's tough to be number 1," Pettit said of Limbaugh's show. "People deface billboards all the time. It's going to be fixed today."
