Recently caught a screener of the pilot.
Let me jump on the bandwagon and say that this one is gonna be the hit of the TV season.
It's got a bizarre, yet strangely engrossing storyline, combined with hilarious writing, gorgeous cinematography and an upbeat and creepy score that's like Desperate Housewives meets Danny Elfman.
And the acting! Lee Pace, Chi McBride, Anna Friel (playwright Brian's daughter), Swoozie Kurtz, Ellen Greene, and Jim Dale's delicious narration are all perfect matches.
This is the one to watch.

To me it seemed to try way too hard to be "QUIRKY!!". The narration, the "Elfmanasqe" score the color palette that made Wisteria Lane look like the Kansas scenes in Oz...I don't think people will want to watch this for very long if they don't tone it down and take a breath.

There was another thread on this but I can't find it.
This is what I wrote on a different thread re the pilot:
I saw the pilot and wasn't a big fan of it mostly because of Pace and the voice-over narration (provided by Broadway's Jim Dale). Chenoweth is funny as usual (though if you don't like her I doubt her performance here will change your mind) and Ellen Greene and Swoozie Kurtz are divine. Friel's character needs a bit more edge but she does great work in the pilot. To me the weak links were Chi McBride and Lee Pace.
Apparently, it's one of the most anticipated shows of the season and everyone I've spoken to that has seen the pilot loves it.
If you like Chenoweth and her persona, you'll love her in this show, if you don't then this won't change your mind. I for one find her hilarious, her line regarding "mastication" (won't spoil it for people who haven't seen the show) had me laughing quite loud for a good time after the scene was over.

I love Chenowith. She's adorable.
And, when ever I see the title, I just think of "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever".

I watched the first two episodes online a couple of nights ago. And every time it went to commercial (and by commercial, I mean those really TERRIBLE Papa John's ads with the chick who couldn't act her way out of a paper bag), I started jumping around (alone in my apartment) saying "I love this show!"
It's like crack for the idiocyncratic people of the world.

I just love this show cause it's so odd and quirky. It's almost like a Tim Burton movie. I just love the concept of a guy who can bring things back from the dead with one touch and then makes the dead permenentaly if he touches them again, so it prohibits him from petting his dog with his actual hands and not with a fake one and from kissing Chuck unless he has plastic wrap or some kind of cover.
I remember reading that apparently later on in the season, that Ned and Chuck get intimate while wearing beekeeper outfits.

It's such a PRETTY show. All the colors and everything.
And I want to steal Chuck's entire wardrobe.

Posted: 10/24/07 at 9:09pmTonight wasn't as funny as other episodes, but I loved the storyline this week. Still, there were a couple of great moments, my favorite: "Oh, this is narcolepsy, necrophelia is the other one..."

Posted: 10/25/07 at 6:56amI tried to watch a bit of this again and just can't get into it. It is so smug and contrived and overproduced. And Jim Dale's voiceover drives me to drink. I love seeing Ellen and Swoozie, but I wish they were in a different show.

Posted: 10/25/07 at 12:27pmI really enjoy it. I like the sense of whimsy and how it takes place in a world that isn't quite like the one we live in. I even enjoy Chenoweth, who usually bugs the hell out of me.

Posted: 10/25/07 at 12:37pmI am not really into it, but I do watch it every week. I am surprised that Cheno hasn't driven me to drink yet. She usually does. I like her in this. She's playing the corny character she was born to play.
