Posted: 3/2/14 at 6:28amOhhh, Ukraine is part of that EU Neighboring Policy. I thought it was actually part of it. Regardless, doesn't the 1994 treaty mean that the US and Britain would both step in (in theory) if Russia sends in military forces?

JG2, no, there is nothing in the treaty that would compel the US or Britain to come to Ukraine's defense.

Posted: 3/2/14 at 11:39amLiza, I don't know what he said exactly so I don't know what his line of reasoning is. But read the treaty for yourself - there is nothing there that would obligate us to intervene.

Posted: 3/2/14 at 4:02pmIt really depends on who you ask. Different news outlets are reporting different interpretations of the signed memo. If one of the countries involved breaks the agreement, would the other two be responsible for stepping in and protectin Ukraine? It doesn't seem so, but it's being reported that it's highly debatable.
