Question about Facebook#1

I do not have a Facebook account. But someone that I know just emailed me (via Facebook) and invited me to join. At the bottom of the invitation the message said, "Other people you may know on Facebook" and it proceeded to list 4 people.
Two of them are mutual acquaintances, but the other 2 are my aunt and tennis partner. My friend has no knowledge of them.
How the heck does Facebook make that connection? I found it a little unsettling.

Edited to say I am answering Marianne ---
Not likely (not even remotely, they travel in totally different circles and have nothing in common), which is why this is so disconcerting. My aunt literally lives 3,000 miles away.
If there is a connection, it has to be a six-degrees kind of thing.

Well distance may not have anything to do with it as people move. I would suggest going into your friends page and looking for these people. Check their friends and see if you know any of them. I have done that.
Also, since this thread has to do with Facebook, be careful of the new virus on there. It is coming in the form of a friend supposedly sending you a link to a video or posting it on your wall. Three of my friends opened them and now have a virus on their computer. I have reported the ones I got but I am still getting them.
