Namo: Thanks for reminding us about the previoulsy deemed un PC CRUISING. The movie's milieu probably just looks accurate these days. The ramble sequences are startlingly authentic. The murder plot was considered exploitative -- but then, what about that wacko who was picking up men at The Townhouse and dropping along the PA turnpike in bits and pieces? Never found. Richard Cox played the baddie in CRUISING, and I once saw him on the street and, jarred, suddenly j-walked through traffic. How's that for suspending disbelief?
I also appreciate the questions about the question. I elected to mention "Sunday..." because it was never labeled a gay film. In post-BOYS IN THE BAND America, "Sunday" resonated for a lot of my generation, showing functioning gay people whose lives were fully integrated with others. Yeah, Finch loses the boy, but so does the equally bereft (and un like Finch, neurotic) Glenda Jackson. It wasn't political, just damned real.
And by the way, some of us dared to be breeders, too.

Auggie, I didn't follow up with your on-target comments re: SUDAY, BLOODY SUNDAY. Quite effective and moving film.

Picking up on the Rosie Cruise...all male gay cruise centered about screenings and analysis of gay-centrice commercial films might be a big seller...add a few actors from the films...it's probably already been done.

It looks kinda sitcomy. But I liked the shot on the beach blankets in the trailer. Very pretty. Looks like gays and Mormons are the new gays and drag queens. Big fag that I am, the draw in that movie would be Mary Kay Place and Jackie Bisset. For me. For ME. FOR MEEEEEEEEEE.
Some of my favorites are...
Trick
Broken Hearts Club (which I'm surprised that no one has thus far mentioned)
All Over the Guy (some of the wittiest writing ever!)
The Laramie Project (which is an awesome drama that makes me cry every time I see it)
Nick
Beautiful Thing
In and Out
Paris is Burning
Wild Reeds
Querelle

Well, I'm a gay man, but I don't believe in movies.
I can't see how people can sit in a dark room and watch shadows on a screen while the nauseating smell of popcorn infiltrates their nasal passages.
I wish Hollywood would stop making movies. I hate them!!!!!!!

Right Matt, Querelle was another interesting bit of celluloid. Forgot about that one.
Then again there was the hintingly homoerotic sense of Cabaret on film.

Top Gun, and don't tell me it's not!

i'll see matt's "querell" and i'll raise him w/ "my beautiful laundrette" and "maurice"
i've been watching too many epidoses "celebrity poker showdown"..if that's possible
Namo, I thought I was the only one to ever see ZERO PATIENCE. Although not a great movie, it is so audacious and committed in it's vision it cannot be dismissed. I even listen to the soundtrack from time to time. To those who have not seen this film, there is indeed a song sung by two lover's assholes on the subject of anal sex. Don't ask, ya just gotta see it.
ALso, TREVOR is so sweet. I gave that video to a bunch of friends one year for Christmas.
I am suprised no one has mentioned THE CELLULOID CLOSET. A great documentary on the portrayal of gays in Cinema history. (Based on Vito Russo's book and narrated by Lily Tomlin.
Phantom2 - NO. It's a wonderful 1994 British film starring the gorgeous Linus Roach (unfortuante last name) and the pre-Full Monty Robert Carlisle. A two-hankie about a gay priest not only dealing with his sexuality, but also his moral conflict between doing what he believes is right or what is his duty as a Catholic priest.

broadwayguy2- Let's watch this together Friday night. I will make popcorn.
Be sure you bring some Kleenex. The ending always tears me up. The film also features Tom Wilkinson. Is he Colm's brother? They look so much alike.
