Mister Matt -- I have Get Real as well... I love it, however, I enjoy the stage play that it is based on, What's Wrong With Angry?, more.. same with Beautiful Thing and its stage counterpart
Awwwwwwww... but Phantom2!!!!!!!!
#58re: re: re: re: Priest
Posted: 1/12/04 at 4:13pmI knew they were both based on plays, but I haven't seen either on stage. Therefore, I'm content with the film versions, which aren't bad.

Posted: 1/12/04 at 4:15pmI highly recommend at least looking into locating the scripts and reading.. if not seeing.. I absolutely adore both films.. the films were my first exposure to both stories, but the stage versions delve a lot deeper.. I enjoyed that..

BENT - very moving and well acted
Beautiful Thing - great coming out movie
Hanging Garden - haunting, moving performances
Trick - just fun, especially Tori's monologue
The House of Yes - technically not "gay" but it has parker posey! very funny in a disturbing sorta way
the usual suspects: longtime companion, torch song trilogy - must-see classics.

I agree that BENT works better as a play but I did like the film version as well.
I can't believe I forgot THE RITZ. My friends and I can do who scenes from it when we get started.
How about WAITING FOR GUFFMAN? It has a very gay sensibility.

I do like Hanging Garden, very poignant film. Who knew there were gays in Nova Scotia?
I've never nade it through Bent. I fall asleep every time.
I like Longtime Companion, but I'm tired of seeing gay films/plays/musicals about AIDS. I came out in high school in the mid-80s and I've had enough for now. I think each and every one was very important and still are for those still uneducated about the severity of the disease, but I just can't personally watch them for now.

Mine would be the originl French version of La Cage Aux Folles.
Kiss Me Guido was also a fun movie.
There was also Billy's Hollywood Kiss which starred a pre-Jack Sean Hayes but it was a pretty dull movie.

THE RITZ on film was no where near as hyterically funny as it was on the stage. No doubt those of you who saw it remember. I'll admit to seeing THE RITZ about 4 times, I think.
