So there's a Quiznos right by my office and i've been stopping there for a sandwich fairly regularly before work and i've noticed the last couple of times that when they ask if i'm gonna stay or take it with me, when i say "to go" the total on the register goes down.
Does anyone know if this is some general Quizno's policy or if the one by my office is just weird?

Quiznos is moving to a reservation only policy I heard.
The wait is supposed to be 6-8 months for a good table.

Depending on where you live, it might be because of tax. If you get food "to go", some places consider that groceries, which are a necessity, and thus non-taxable. If you get it "to stay", that's considered dining out, which is a luxury, and thus taxable...in my state anyway.
There are very specific guidelines for what constitutes grocery vs taxable luxury. I remember a cafe I used to frequent would only consider your "to go" muffin purchase groceries if you purchased six or more muffins. Otherwise, if you just got one to go, they still considered it eating out. Most places don't follow the rules that specifically.

Posted: 8/16/08 at 12:36pmI have only been to Quiznos once and they looked at me like I had two heads because I didn't know how to order "correctly". I actually asked if all the sandwiches had to be hot. They just stared at me. And then at each other. I had to explain that I had never been there before. Really, am I the only American to have never been to a Quiznos? Come on!

Posted: 8/16/08 at 12:49pmWhere are you, Chance? I would bet it's a tax issue, too. The tax free grocery states can't charge you tax on food to go.

You do realize that it's more work for them if you dine in... They have to wipe the table and probably sweep up the crumbs.
If it's just to go, then the tables stay clean.
That's the first thought that came to my mind, anyway. I'm probably wrong.

I love Quiznos. Their sandwiches are better, with better ingredients. I used to order the peppercorn steak sandwich all the time and it was delicious.
It helped that they delivered.

Posted: 8/16/08 at 4:35pmIt's usually much more expensive to pack food to go- wrap, bag, extra napkins, suace packets. I bt it is a tax thing- just ask.

And if you do order a 5-dollar footlong, make sure you don't have a knife in your bread like that guy who is trying to sue Subway.
