NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. Really sad to hear of his passing.
Directed two of the finest examples of transferring a stage show to a movie. Will be missed.
The most versitile director who ever lived,in my opinion; and, my favorite.
Go in peace, Robert.
Truly a wonderful director, one whose influence will still be felt in a hundred years...
How sad, but what a life he did live! Rest In Peace.
Good night Robert Wise, where ever you are.

How sad!
What an amazing director he was. You will be greatly missed, Robert.
I thought about you, Convince--you mentioned he was your fave not so long ago...he will be missed...
I can't believe none of you queens have said this yet:
So long.
Farewell.
Auf weidersehen.
Good-bye.
robbie, you beat me to it!
Sad news to wake up to this morning...
RIP
I was first introduced to Wise's work, as many I am sure, with THE SOUND OF MUSIC. It was, at the time my favorite film...go figure. As I got older I started becoming aware of the name showing up on other films I loved...He really was the first film director that I became aware of, and at a very early age, taught me to appreciate what a great director can do to for a film.
What a talented and versatile man. I am saddened by this news.
I was sorry to hear this. He made many films that I enjoyed a lot.

I actually think the first film of his I saw was THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN, which weirds me out to this day! Then I saw THE SOUND OF MUSIC, which instantaneously become one of my favorite films of all time (with NO apologies!)
It's rather amazing to consider the breadth of his directorial vision - a complete acquiescence to the material, without losing any of his command or control. Admirably brilliant.
Wonderful director - he helmed one of my all time favorite films, the psychological thriller The Haunting. (the original, mind you, not that piece of crap imitator with Catherine Zeta Jones)...and The Andromeda Strain is one of the most frightening films of all time.
I love to compare his openings to The Sound of Music and West Side Story, both dazzling aerial shots, both dazzling uses of music.

At one of the Oscar ceremonies, as a way to show the importance of sound editing, they combined his shot of Maria running up over the mountaintop with the sound of the helicopters coming in from APOCOLYPSE NOW. It was one of the funniest things I'd ever seen. They asked what he thought about it (Mr. Wise) and he said it was brilliant
It's funny how THE SOUND OF MUSIC is one of the most loved and most reviled films in history.
today is a day the earth should stand still in respect for this great director and wonderful man. i'm so glad he recorded some dvd commentaries for us to relish.
klatu ... barrada ... nicto ...
One of the best has passed on
A sad day for Hollywood. We will not see his like again
