"Legendary news anchor and talk show host Tom Snyder has died. Snyder was an anchor at KYW, WNBC and KNBC before hosting the late-night Tomorrow program on NBC in the late 1970's. He returned to TV in the 1990's hosting a talk show on CNBC and in 1995, became the first host of The Late, Late Show on CBS.
Neal Kendall, EP of Tavis Smiley on PBS, who once worked with Snyder, writes to TVNewser, "The Tomorrow Show on NBC was perhaps the most eclectic and unique late-night program in the history of the medium. Tom was a great friend to so many of us who came to know and love him."
Snyder died Sunday in San Francisco from complications of leukemia. He was 71."
Tom Snyder Dies
Does anyone remember Dan Aykroyd's take off of him on SNL?
It was dead on, if you will excuse the expression.
When I was up late at night (on a school night) in the late '70s, I remember tuning in from time to time. It wasn't exactly typical teenage viewing (for me), but I enjoyed his program.
Tom Snyder smokes pot at party
Long before he had a national show, Ton Snyder did a local Philadelphia show called, Contact. My parents and I used to laugh at his "different" approach to an interview.

I grew up in Philly listening to Tom. I'll bet he chain smoked right til the end. 71 is a ripe old age to achieve when you're battling leukemia.

Sorry to hear about his passing. He hasn't been around much lately but every now and then would be mentioned in the San Francisco Chronicle as he lived in the area.

What a strange coincidence. Last night, I happened to pull out an old VHS tape of an episode of "Tomorrow" featuring several cast members of Star Trek, from before the first movie...
...and now he's passed away. Very strange.

God Bless Tom, you were very much a favorite of mine.
have fun up there, tom. they can't dodge you now, pal.
Loved him. He was real and his late late show was the best.

If I believed in heaven, which I don't, I'd also like to believe that Tom is once again interviewing Wendy O. Williams (whose head is miraculously reattached to her body) and that they get it on once more after the interview.
