Saw that nobody posted about this but French film director Alain Resnais, has passed away at the age of 91. He was still a working director who just put out You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet (available on Netflix) and Life of Riley that premiered at the Berlin Film Festival weeks ago.

He made films before the French New Wave explosion but is often associated with them as an equal contemporary. His filmography includes Last Year at Marienbad, Night & Fog (one of the first docs that explored the concentration camps), Hiroshima Mon Amour, Muriel, Providence, and Mon Oncle d'Amérique. RIP to a legend.

Both LAST YEAR IN MARIENBAD and HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR had profound effects on me, and his WILD GLASS is one of my favorite films in recent years. RIP. It's inspiring how he worked up to the end.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Thanks for posting. Hadn't heard about his passing yet. I wonder if there will be a mention at tonight's Oscars. HIROSHIMA MON AMOUR is the only film of his I've seen, I must admit, but I absolutely adore it.
