It looks as though she has passed away. Several people heard the rumor and I called her theatre. The very nice woman said, "Well, we aren't supposed to be saying anything because it's supposed to come from the family." I said, "Oh no. So she is gone." The woman said, "I am so sorry." I can't imagine them saying that if she hadn't. I still hope it isn't true. She's my second favorite republican.

So, so sad. A great performer and a great lady.

I hope they dim the lights of Georgia.

RIP
My mom is going to be devastated over this news. She loved Julia Sugarbaker and loved Dixie's turn as Orson's mother on Desperate Housewives. I miss watching two hours straight of Designing Women and The Golden Girls on Lifetime every day. I am quite limited in knowledge of her acting and performing careers but Dixie fans should try to find the film That Evening Sun. She has a small part in it playing her real-life husband Hal Holbrook's wife but her role is so vital to a film that is very beautiful albeit predictable Southern drama.
Sad news. She always seems like class and sass all rolled into one.

My heart is truly broken. There will never be another like her.

I saw her in "Master Class" and she did an excellent job. I had always wished Encores would have done a revival of "Coco" with her.
She was a wonderful Julia Sugarbaker and--don't forget--a wonderful singer.

Wow! I am so shocked! It didn't say what happened but I am very saddened by this. She was a grand southern woman and a great actress.
Several years ago she came back to Memphis where she had done some theatre many years ago and did A Streetcar Named Desire at the Univeristy of Memphis. I'm so glad I saw it.
She was a wonderful actress. Unlike Pal Joey, I never cared for her singing, but as an actress she was incredible. I feel so fortunate to have seen her in Master Class. She ignited the stage.
I always prefered her singing in this episisode:
How Great Thou Art
Loved her so much on DW but I never cared for her singing either.

I just heard about this too. It makes me so sad......I loved Designing Women. Poor Hal. My thoughts are with the family.

I was so sorry to hear this. I loved her monologues in Designing Women and seeing her in Master Class was one of my all time favorite Broadway experiences.
"And that's the night...the lights...went out...in Geor..gia!"
