I heard him speak in June, 1990. Even Jedediah Atkinson wouldn't have found anything to gripe about that speech. It was thrilling. I can't get my brain around the fact that it was over 23 years ago.

Coincidentally, I'll be performing this song tomorrow arranged by our director. He used a chant (Of the Father's Love Begotten) taught by white Christian missionaries in South Africa and then combined it with a South African hymn of freedom (Thula Sizwe).

Nelson Mandela was the first President in history to include protection from discrimination based on sexual orientation in his country's constitution. In 1996. Something we still haven't accomplished here.
