So much to celebrate. So extreme in so many directions.
That's a good thing.

Posted: 8/8/10 at 11:36pmAs soon as I saw your statue on facebook I was afraid she had died so I came straight to BWW to confirm. She was such a classy woman. One of her best friends lives in my area and there have been lots of articles about her and her friend throughout the years. So, while the Kardashians and Jersey Shore get front page news, she will get a small blip on the side of the newspaper- such a shame. I just loved her voice!

There was something so unique about her. Her face, that voice, her acting.

I actually teared up when I heard the news this morning. She was such a part of my life growing up, in films and on TV. I will never forget her performance as Mama Walton in "The Homecoming" (the TV movie that spawned "The Waltons") I've seen it several times since then, and her performance is so powerful.
And of course, everything from HUD to The Day the Earth Stood Still.
RIP to a beautiful talent.
By the way, this should be on the Main Board as well. Patricia was the very first performer to win the Best Feature Actress in a Play (Tony Award) for "Another Part of the Forest."

"John Boy, are you smoking cigarettes up here?"
The Homecoming was my first introduction to Patricia Neal. My mother told me that she was a very famous actress. But I was more impressed that she was married to the author of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory.
She had a difficult life. One child died of measles, one child was badly injured when his baby carriage was hit by a taxi and she had a stroke when pregnant with her fifth child.
Rest in peace.

The afternoon I saw SHADOWLANDS, while waiting outside the theater for the house to open I watched as Jane Alexander was heading to the stage door, and Patricia Neal was walking toward the theater. Ms. Alexander saw her and bowed down on one knee, her head nearly touching the pavement. Ms. Neal smiled and barked in that inimitable voice of hers: "Oh get up, get up. You're pretty swell too."
I love that memory of her.
