RIP Shirley Temple

Another part of our childhood gone.
Shirley Temple Black Dead at 85
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

RIP Shirley Temple

Arguably (but not that arguably) the most popular film star of the 1930s. A film icon with enormous talent who helped lift the spirit of our country during the Great Depression.

RIP, little Shirley.

RIP Shirley Temple

My favorite Shirley Temple movie is probably her biggest commercial flop. It was Fox's answer to The Wizard of Oz, made in 1940, when Shirley was growing out of her iconic childhood persona.

Still, I lover her performance in it, and the story as well.

RIP Shirley Temple

A lot of people say she didn't make the jump from child star to adult, but that is not true.

She had a couple of lean years, but also a couple of huge hits in her late teen years: "The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer" and "Since You Went Away." She married young, and for a time, she quit the business. She was back a decade later, starring in her own TV show, Shirley Temple's Storybook.

But nothing would or could compare to her popularity as a child star. Nothing and no one even comes close to it today.

She was an "icon" of Hollywood, right up there with Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Clark Gable, Judy Garland, Greta Garbo.

Shirley also enjoyed a lengthy career in public service after her days of childhood fame. Nearly 30 years of representing our country at the UN and at embassies around the world. May she rest in peace!

RIP Shirley Temple

My favorite film was "Little Miss Broadway". I memorized the entire film and tried to get the kids in my neighborhood to reenact scenes in my backyard. Unfortunately, the other kids had never seen the film and had no idea what I was talking (incessantly) about.

I'm glad she led a "normal", fulfilling life after her early career.

Mine too, Moony! Although I didn't try to get anyone to re-enact that one. I'd learned my lesson the year before with the ill-fated "Heidi Fiasco of 1967."

"Heidi" was renacted in the privacy of my home, with my grandmother. She was terrible at taking direction.

I wonder how many young kids ended up in the hospital trying to recreate her staircase tap dances with Bill Bojangles Robinson.

Probably not as many who tried to fly after watching Mary Martin in PETER PAN.

Not that I'd know anything about that. I only fell off the couch...

An admirable performer and good person who became famous for all the right reasons. Beauty, talent, stability, public service. May she truly rest in peace.

Very sad to hear this! She had such talent when she was little. But she did leave behind such a legacy.

I don't mind sharing my childhood ignorance with you on this again ... I've mentioned it before ...

But when I was very young (seven? eight?), I remember thinking that there were two little girls: Shirley Temple and Shirley Temple Black---a little black girl who also wore frilly dresses and tap danced and made movies. Remember, this was the era of advertising black Barbie dolls and there were black versions of Broadway musicals running in NY. And it felt only right and natural that there would be two Shirley Temples for all the world to share and enjoy.

Then I saw this "old woman" ambassador lady on the TV news named Shirley Temple Black, and my dad explained it to me. He also laughed.

A lot.

So sad. RIP Shirley Temple My favorite movie is Bright Eyes.

Does anyone remember the episode of The Brady Bunch where Marcia tricks Cindy into believing a client of their dad was coming to see her to turn her into the next Shirley Temple?

As a child I used to watch her movies. I was crushed when I found out she was an adult by that time and not that child I saw in the movies!!
