my heart just sank as well. this past sunday i was watching brigadoon and silk stockings. on the silk stockings dvd she hosts a mini-doc on the making of the film. i was watching it, sitting there thinking how wonderful that she was still alive and now she's gone. R.I.P.

Dancing in the Dark IS the most romantic dance ever put on film. It has class, passion, strength and gentility.
It's two of the world's best dancers having a conversation without ever saying a word.

Posted: 6/17/08 at 9:52pmi'm re-watching brigadoon right now. her singing voice was always dubbed in her films but she's a fine actor, she's ravishingly beautiful and her dancing, well, that goes without saying.

Amen to all who mentioned "Dancing in the Dark"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duLFwcsc6Nc
And since it is danced without words, here are the words:
What though love is old?
What though song is old?
Through them, we can be young.
Hear this heart of mine.
Make yours part of mine.
Dear one...
Tell me that we're one...
Dancing in the dark,
Till the tune ends,
We're dancing in the dark,
And it soon ends.
We're waltzing in the wonder
Of why we're here;
Time hurries by,
Were here...and gone.
Looking for the light
Of a new love
To brighten up the night.
I have you, love,
And we can face the music together:
Dancing in the dark.

Stunning beauty. Glorious talent.
RIP, and thank you for sharing your gifts with us.

We need to celebrate Cyd's life. I'm not heartbroken -- I'm so grateful she was here, contributed her extraordinary gifts to us, and lived such a gloriously long productive life.
You know, the first person I thought of when I saw this thread was.....GLEBB. Didn't he always love Cyd...one of the few Hollywood dancers with a classic ballet technique?
So long, Cyd...we're glad you came our way.

Yay for "Dancing In the Dark." It's my favorite of her dance numbers, and the first thing I watched when I got home last night.
Very well said, Best12.

Why am I still so sad about Cyd Charisse passing?
I actually got teary-eyed about it today.
I don't think I realized just how much she affected me with her enormous talent.

I haven't even been able to express my sadness for the passing of Cyd Charisse. She seemed intertwined with my childhood and some of the happiest memories in my life. My dad had a sort of "crush" on her. Probably because she reminded him of my mom.
What a talent she was! She and Vera-Ellen are still my favorite Hollywood dancers. But Cyd had a grace and elegance difficult to define, for me anyway.
So, you are not alone, Besty.
