I just heard this on 'Comedy Central Presents' & thought it was pretty on topic:

"If Judgment Day is anything like the DMV then I'd rather be in the 'Letting gays get married' line than 'I touch little boys' line."

In addition to the multiple levels of wrong and misguided I find this post, both religiously and socially, I have to add that one of the basic Biblical points is fundamentally wrong.

The slavery issue is not a part of the "old law" (which of course Jesus came "not to abolish, but to fulfill," if that is you care what the Bible has to say about that), the New Testament also supports the system. Paul sends Philemon back to live as a slave with his owner. None of that means that slavery is right, it means simply that, just as with Homosexuality, the Bible is not the appropriate source for specific inquiry into the topic.

In these questions it is best to look inward, and if one happens to be a Christian to listen to the message of Love and reconciliation at the heart of the Biblical message, instead of looking for ridiculous excuses to hate. Like a Pharisee inspired reading of the text, or the nonsensical idea of hating the sin but not the sinner.

We all have to understand our own morality, whether based on tradition and what we grew up with, or our own experiences of life and rationality and justice.
I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Annas...

There are classes you can take to learn about the history of which you speak (quite poorly informed, may I add).

Also, I am continually baffled at the way homosexuality is constantly linked to the history of Americans of African descent, as if there were some direct parallel.

Annas_Priest, Why Do you Hate God and Jesus?

C'mon, the idiot does not think women should be pastors. I doubt if Annas thinks women should work,be allowed to vote,or even speak out against a man. Annas is living in the dark ages.I bet he thinks women serve only one purpose in life.I'll fight for women's rights just as much as I'll fight for gay rights and when I read that, damn that just pushed me over the edge. What a insensitive prick! Here is what he wrote:

"Women should not be pastors.
Pre-marital sex is also a sin.
The others things you listed are old laws. Plain. Simple, Clear."

I had to read it twice just to make sure I was not seeing things.Pre-marital sex is also a sin? Damn, I guess Bristol Palin is a sinner then, huh? Any mortal who judges man like this has a God complex and Annas has proven he has zero faith in the God he supposedly worships. If he did, he would follow that verse that says,'Thou shalt not judge'.People like Annas feel it's their job and duty to play God and they somehow justify their actions by saying they are doing the lords work.People like Annas have been hurting people for years. They justify their hate and hide behind the bible. They practice their cruel ways and then say it's all in the name of God.

Luke 6:37, "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven.

Of course, Annas will have to go look this up to see if it is true because he is to ignorant to know for himself.I despise creatures like this Annas_Priest. As a Christian I believe idiots like Annas turn people away from the church and God.Annas will have to answer for his arrogance someday and being young and naive I doubt will cut it.

C'mon, the idiot does not think women should be pastors. - Romantico

That's probably because he has been taught a wrong interpretation of the verse in 1st Corinthians which says women should keep silent in the church.

That wasn't intended as a ban on female pastors but was rather meant to discourage disturbances during public worship assemblies in that particular time, place, and culture.

For one thing, husbands and wives sat in different sections during these assemblies. If a woman wanted to ask her husband a question, she couldn't lean over and whisper politely in his ear. She'd have to raise her voice across the room. If enough of that got going at once, needless to say, would be hard for any real teaching to be done. So best for her to hold that thought and discuss it with him later at home.

Again, this was cultural. In that culture, women were expected to cover their heads as a sign of submission and reverence to God. While that practice still carries over today with some religious traditions, it's certainly not automatically expected or practiced in every place of worship and often even changes with the times. (In some church denominations, for instance, women in the 50s or 60s may have worn head coverings of some kind more than women today do in those same denominations.)

It can no more be taken as a blanket "command" across all times and cultures that women have to always keep silent in church than it is to say that their heads always have to be covered. Or that they can't ever wear jewelry or makeup. One has to look at what these particular things mean to that particular culture at that particular time.

Paul also writes positively about women prophesying in church, about deaconesses, etc. So he was far from being against female pastors, preachers, whatever term you wish to use.

See this at Sojourners site:

And just to say too, the whole anti-gay thing really gets old after a while. That's not being Christian. God really doesn't care if you're gay or straight. He does care how you treat people.
